What I’ve been watching:

“How to design an (innovation) culture” — Strategyzer

What I’m working on:

Developing a rent first culture where every member of staff has some responsibility for the income that we collect. This approach will ensure we maximise all potential contacts with tenants and help support our Income team in responding to Universal Credit and keeping rent arrears low.

Changing our approach to housekeeping and fire risk to ensure that we have long-term solutions and mechanisms in place to keep our communal areas free from clutter.

Budgets — Planning what and how we’re going to deliver our services next year along with what our priorities will be for the next 12 months.

What I’ve been thinking about:

Recruitment: Is the way we recruit in housing fit for purpose? Will we have JD’s and set person spec’s in a few years’ time? How do we attract talent to a sector that people “fall” into? I’ve no answers to any of these questions — but think this will be an interesting space in the next few years

Visual thinking: Perhaps I’m bias as someone who learns and best explains themselves best in a visual manner, however, I was really inspired by the webinar mentioned above around creating an innovation culture. Within this webinar they spoke about the power of drawings to help create a richer and deeper understanding of complex problems, as well as their ability to replace debate and argument with creativity, discovery and collaboration. We don’t see much visual working within the sector — but I feel this is an area that could be explored in more detail.
