Making it “Medium Official”: I’ve left my company

Much like how relationship status changes aren’t official until they’re Facebook Official, I’ve learned that job status changes aren’t official until they’re “LinkedIn/Twitter/Medium Official.” I wasn’t planning on writing a post, but here’s a quick one for posterity’s sake.

I recently transitioned out of my day-to-day role with SweetLabs. l’ll continue to be a board advisor, shareholder, cheerleader, and friend to the company.

Why?

Shortest answer: Seven year itch.

Short answer: After 7.5 equally incredible and uncomfortable years, I found myself comfortable earlier this year — with an amazing team and successful business. Which just means, for a masochist like myself, it is time to venture outside of my comfort zone.

Longer answer: You’ll have to meet up with me to get that. Spoiler alert — I’ve been told my story is boring and quite disappointing, specifically the absence of “founder departure drama” that we’ve all come to expect and enjoy.

Sorry. I love my SweetLabs family. Period.

Post updated to include this ridiculous card the crew made me, as well as epic tattoos everyone wore on my last day. ❤

What does this mean for SweetLabs?

Shortest answer: Record revenue growth since I gave notice! 📈

Short answer: SweetLabs is in the strongest position it has ever been. Revenues doubled in 2015, an incredible feat for a company of our size, stage, and age. The company is quite profitable now, thanks to the stellar team leading the charge. Our pivot to driving mobile and PC app distribution through the device channel has worked, but we’ve barely scratched the surface on this massive opportunity!

Longer answer: The next chapter of the SweetLabs story is riveting, so I highly recommend meeting up with the crew at CES to hear it! I’m happy to put you in touch.

What’s next?

Shortest answer: Stay tuned.

Short answer: I plan to take some time to explore and learn — more on how and where I’ll do that in a future post. For now, I’m spending some bonus holiday time with my penguins.

Longer answer: Coming soon… to a future Medium post near you.
