My Most Recent Challenging Learning Experience So Far
My most recent challenging learning experience is having to learn and work with Materialize UI.
A friend of mine would say the best way to avoid temptation is to fall into it. Although that last statement may seem unrelated to the subject at hand, I think what my friend means is that doing something displaces any fear one may have had for that thing prior to doing it.
I have been using Bootstrap 3 for a while and have a great understanding of it, but when we were told to use Materialize UI or Bootstrap 4 for our project design, I was a bit taken aback. A little google search taught me that although Bootstrap 4 has some awesome features, most of those features are not fully supported by some browsers. I had to make a choice between Bootstrap 4 and Materialize UI. I asked myself why gamble if it will work or not, so I switched to reading Materialize UI which was the second and the recommended option.
One thing to mention is that I am the kind of person that believes in reading through and making sure I know how something works before using it. So I quickly googled and found some interesting tutorials on Materialize UI. I read through and started coding.
At some point, some of my pages were not working properly. I had to search YouTube for video tutorials, and sort through all the results I got to find those that made sense. But like they say practice makes perfect. I Followed the good tutorials I found and before long I was looking at my code and asking myself whether I actually wrote all of it.
So, not only did I finish my first challenge, but I’ve also added one CSS framework to my technical skills. So far it has been fun learning new stuff.
