Two years of Chikn. Unbelievable.
From a simple idea to a thriving ecosystem.
Some jpegs and a dream, to an iconic brand.
From humble begginings, cast into the limelight.
It has truly been epic.

We never expected this.
Sure, we had hopes, we had plans.
But we were just building cool stuff.
The stuff we wanted to see.
But two years later, it feels… inevitable.

And perhaps that’s because we never stopped having fun.
The hopes and dreams became reality, and the world is now our oyster.
Sure the stakes are higher, but that only adds to the thrill.

We’re always playing, changing, learning.
Of course, we know it’s serious business.
But we try not to take ourselves too seriously.
Because, well, we’re talking about multi-million dollar jpegs.
Of poultry.
And that won’t ever stop being hilarious.

I guess to put it simply, Chikn really is our lives.
It has been for two whole years.

It doesn’t mean this job is easy.
It wouldn’t be an epic journey without some turmoil.

Doubt. Risk. Failure.
Expectations and disappointments.
Market forces beyond our control.
All 24/7 and in the public eye.

This space can demand everything, and leave you with nothing.
It can be hard. It can suck, really bad, at times.
These past 24 months have chewed people up, and spit them out.
But not us.
These birds of a feather flock together.

Now here we stand, two years later, at the feet of the coming bull-market wave.
Coq in hand.
And it all seems… worth it.

It feels like yesterday we were pondering the origin of the $EGG as we celebrated our 1st birthday, with party hats going around and a rager to end all ragers burning all week long in the Discord. The hangover from that party is only now starting to ease — but we’re about to do it all over again to celebrate the 2nd, of what will be many, Chikn birthdays 🥳

As we sit down to pen these articles, we always start by taking a look back. These are times for reflection and insight. It’s so easy to get caught up in the frenzy of daily building. Since launching on November 12, 2021, a lot has happened — and there’s certainly been a lot to unpack.

Year One was all about our flagship NFTs and tokens, and bootstrapping the project from literally nothing. This first year was the big rush, the zero to one moment, the bird taking flight. With huge mints, massive LP, millions of dollars of tokens burned, tens of thousands of users — it was a wild time.

Weirdly enough it feels like a past life, a distant memory of a different time and market. If you look around obscure Discord and alpha groups, you’ll often find nothing but relics of the last bull market, and always a few fellow degenerates talking about Chikn: the project that just won’t quit. The size of our impact, much like the size of LeCoq Grande, cannot be overstated.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing and up only. From contract redeployments to minting bugs and controversy, we went through the wringer in the first year. Exploding onto the scene and riding the momentum all year, it was the most stressful and sleep-deprived of times, but also the most exciting. This is where many of you began your journey with Chikn, and have been strapped in for the ride ever since. But just in case you are new, or if you want to just get up to speed, check out the Year in Review article from last year — it’s fascinating to see where we were and compare it with where we are today.

It’s not surprising to say that our second year of existence was quite different from our first, and that’s to be expected — but there were certainly some amazing parallels between them.

On our birthday last year, for example, we celebrated three successful mints — chikn, Roostr, and FarmLand. These cornerstone collections shaped the farm and brought us together as a community. This year, farmers can celebrate a bountiful harvest with a full season of Blueprints and Items, some awesome partner mints launched through Eggnite, and the first murmurings of the biggest change to the Chikn ecosystem since chikn started laying $EGG.

On our first birthday, we also celebrated Chikn taking the stage at the first Avalanche Summit in Barcelona, albeit in a dusty art gallery basement. We were but hatchlings then, spreading our wings in the wide world of blockchain. This year, however, we celebrate another keynote at that same conference — this time on the Main Stage, as veterans with a vision to expand the reach of the chain we call home, with the flock we call family.

In the first birthday recap, we explored the impact that the craziest bull market in crypto history had on our project and highlighted some truly wonderful numbers. This year, we reflect on the impact that one of the most brutal bear markets in crypto history had on not only our project but the web3 space as a whole. Not only did we survive this period, we thrived.

During our first birthday, we recognised our collective achievements with Chikn Wrapped. And this year, Chikn Wrapped makes a return.

So fill your carafes, put on your party hats, and crank Chikn Radio to the max.

It’s time to party.

Happy Birthday, Mother Cluckers ❤️

Pin the Tail on the Coq

NO SHOES ON THE JUMPING CASTLE

It wouldn’t be a party without party games, it wouldn’t be a birthday without a little something to take home afterwards. Although what we might call a ‘party bag’ has changed as we got older, the idea is still more or less the same—and we’ve made sure this year’s celebration is full of fun activities, prizes, and mementoes for the whole family to enjoy.

Birthday Collectibles

Last year’s party hat mint set festive spirits high, with 1,000 lucky cluckers managing to grab the limited-edition free-mint item. These saw instant volume on exchanges, with the floor price peaking at 9.4 AVAX on November 23.

Party hats have, to date, done more than 4,500 AVAX in volume — and just last week were number 6 on the AVAX NFT leaderboard. For those who did their time in the crowded market at Varrock West, the power of party hats is well understood.

wtb

This year we want to continue the giving spirit with another special edition collection — this time, distributed via an $EGG Burn Race.

The 2nd birthday collectible will have a total supply of 500 and will include 3 uniques.

The race itself will run for 24 hours from 02:00 UTC on Wednesday, November 22 until 02:00 UTC on Thursday, November 23. Reveals will happen shortly after.

Will it be a hat? Or perhaps a bigger hat? Who’s to say?

If you’ve never done a burn race before, fear not — the mechanics are easy and once you get the hang of it you’ll be climbing the leaderboard in no time.

Over the 24-hour period, you’ll be able to burn $EGG to put yourself on the leaderboard. The more $EGG you burn, the higher you go. The higher you place at the end of the race, the rarer the NFT you’ll receive.

There’s no limit to the number of times or quantity of $EGG you can burn to add to your tally, and gas is your only consideration.

There’s a fair bit of strategy at play in these races. How high are you willing to go? What kind of gap do you need to set between you and the person behind you? What will you do about sneaky snipers getting a last-minute burn in? We are warning you in advance this time — do not leave your run too late.

But, the rewards are worth it — in this case, a collectable piece of Chikn history. Proof that you were here when it happened. Evidence of your commitment to coq.

So start hoarding those eggies — and best of luck to our racers.

Roostr Run

Chikn’s very own Seabok has been hard at work expanding his brain and upskilling on game development. Earlier this year we were proud to help announce Roostr Run — Seabok’s foray into poultry-themed arcade games, with art and animation from none other than Mr. Midnight Gravy himself.

Seabok has been tossing up when and how to release access to the game, particularly for testing. When we proposed aligning with the birthday, he got to work polishing off some rough edges and getting together a working beta to the stage that it could be shared with the world.

The time for that sharing is now. Or yesterday. Whenever the announcement was.

From the first day of the birthday week until the Friday Spaces to round it all off, the first annual Roostr Run Tournament is going down. Simply jump on the game, enter your Ttwitter handle as your username (this is important for prizes, so don’t mess it up), and start running as fast, and carefully, as you can.

The prizes you ask? Well, icymi, the Top 10 runs will be rewarded as follows:

1st: Roostr NFT

2nd: FarmLand NFT

3rd: Legendary Item NFT

4th: 250k $WORM

5th: 100k $WORM

6th: 50k $WORM

7th-10th: 10k $WORM each

It’s important to remember that the game isn’t 100% finished yet — this is a Beta. Seabok will be using this week to collect feedback and log bugs to fix for the subsequent release. If you have any feedback, please jump into the feedback channel in the Chikn Discord, and don’t forget to hit Seabok up if you’d like to contribute your skills to development!

To help celebrate the launch, long-time lurker and first-time streamer Sherbok will be livestreaming a playthrough in the Chikn Discord on Wednesday, November 22 at 06:00 UTC. Whether or not Sherbs has the chops to lock in a WR is yet to be seen, and the rest of us encourage everyone to try and snipe his achievements while the stream is ongoing.

If anyone is interested in developing third-party games, tooling or any platform in the chikn ecosystem please reach out so we can support you. We are always looking to grow the Chikn Extended Universe.

Chiknstagram Tournament

You’re burning your $EGG and running your Roostr—now it’s time for the art kids to have some fun.

To celebrate another year of Chikn, we’re launching an EGG-themed meme competition on Chiknstagram. Just put together an edit using Chiknstagram assets, feature our favourite burnable token $EGG, and share it with the word ✨

> Visit Chiknstagram to start editing!

A couple of lil’ things to keep in mind:

  • We’ll announce the winners in our Space on Friday, Nov 25, so get your entries in before then!
  • When you share it to socials, mention ‘AVAX’ and ‘NFTs’ (they don’t need to be hashtags btw)
  • Tag @chikn_nft somewhere in your post (ideally not the first thing, but you do you)

We’ve assembled a team of skilled and highly critical judges (they’re us) to select the winners.

Top 3 GET A PRIZE!

And what do you win?

A birthday surprise!

A bag of lollies? A slice of fairy bread? Something KFC bought last cycle that’s now worth less than the gas it would take to transfer it? Something much, much better than that? Who knows—it’s a surprise after all!

Get your entries in—you’ve got free reign to edit whatever you want, so get creative 🎨

On the Launchpad

Eggnite hit the chain late last year and was one of our craziest experiments to date, taking the $EGG burn framework that saw the Roostr mint break Avalanche and making a habit of it. This was our first foray into enabling partners to launch NFTs both within, and surrounding the Chikn ecosystem.

It also turned out to be a prototype for ChiknX partner rewards, leaning on the same proposition: launch your NFT to the roost and see our tokens go up in smoke in the process.

Eggnite successfully launched six collections in the last 12 months, each time incinerating a hefty amount of $EGG.

Big Ol’ Test Burn

  • 116 entrants burned 123,730 $EGG
  • The top three burners incinerated 21,800, 10,931, and 7,638 $EGG each
  • Total $EGG burned on February 15 reached 186,377 $EGG, exceeding that day’s total mint by 26%

Alloy Space

  • 472 entrants burned 469,314 $EGG
  • The top three burners fried 32,768, 29,000, and 27,004 $EGG each
  • Total $EGG burned on February 21 reached 489,385 $EGG, exceeding that day’s total mint by a whopping 176%

13N’s GlassCoils NFT

  • 92 entrants burned 62,301 $EGG
  • The top two burners fried 15,050 and 5,001 $EGG each, while two burners both scorched 5,000 $EGG each
  • Total $EGG burned on March 10 reached 111,968 $EGG, exceeding that day’s total mint by 6%

Shrapnel SCU Burn Race

  • 500 entrants burned 97,090 $EGG
  • The top four burners scorched more than 9,000 each — 37,702 $EGG in total.
  • Total $EGG burned on March 20 reached 141,762 $EGG, exceeding that day’s total mint by 7.6%

Easter Egg Burn Race

  • 201 entrants burned 48,627 $EGG
  • Mountainman.Avax got the number exactly right, burning 1,328 $EGG to take the 1/1 Gravy Drip
  • Total $EGG burned on April 09 reached 66,990 $EGG, not quite exceeding the day’s total mint

Legend of Aurum Draconis Burn Race

  • 194 entrants burned 235,266 $EGG
  • The top three burners deleted 15,590, 13,000, and 9,088 $EGG each
  • Total $EGG burned on April 23 reached 283,331 $EGG, exceeding that day’s total mint by 67%

While there hasn’t been a launch for a little while, that doesn’t mean they’re not still an important part of the mix. As we look to expand Chikn from a closed game to a wider ecosystem, both Eggnite and Partner Rewards (more on this later) will play an integral role in bringing new users to the roost and stimulating demand for the eggies your birds diligently lay.

As mentioned, we’ll be dusting off the launch button in leveraging the Eggnite infrastructure for this year’s birthday mint, so bookmark that page and load up on $EGG (and some $AVAX for gas) — it’s happening.

Hentelligent Design

Last November, we celebrated our first birthday while pushing all the buttons we needed to get Foraging rolled out. Chikn and Roostr were out collecting Resources, but we had only just been introduced to the subterranean friends that would mark a new chapter in the history of the roost.

Unlike the chaos that surrounded the NFT mints, $WORM came quietly into the world. These tiny little fellas live under your FarmLand, digging around in their Dwarven Wormy Halls, and despite their size, had a seismic impact on the game we all love.

With $WORM and Resources came Blueprints and Items, closing the loop and revealing the path toward our Play-to-Own economy.

For those on the outside, this might not have seemed that significant. But for the farmers, Chikn had taken a massive leap toward sustainability: an ecosystem that gives players tools to generate hundreds and thousands of NFTs for use in Chikn, with other Avalanche projects, and for expansion across chains.

The Chikn we celebrated when we turned 1 was a very different Chikn to the one we’re celebrating at 2, and will probably be very different when we meet for birthday numero tres next year. As the industry matures, so do we. As the industry changes, so do we. And as Chikn evolves, so does our community.

Also evolving was the gameplay meta that emerged after the full foraging rollout. Spreadsheet aficionados and community devs went into overdrive to deliver updated strategy tooling that continued to evolve as Season One rolled out and came to a close in May. After some small rebalances and patches, a trend emerged as players honed in on optimised strategies for their flock.

Around the time that Season One wrapped up, a new boost to the ecosystem was released: $WORM multiplier. This handy supercharger lets players build up a deposit multiplier that they can use when they want, giving them a handy boost to their WormFarming capabilities.

Remember: Deploy those $WORM daily to take advantage!

These capabilities, as well as all the other mechanics that make the ecosystem tick, were diligently collected and documented in the revised Chikn GitBook. Available at docs.chikn.farm, the GitBook is long, detailed, and at this stage, cannon. Check it out if you ever feel lost, want to understand some formulas, are looking for assets, want to make memes, or want to find a list of all available third-party tools. It’s got everything. It took a long time to write.

Docs, Foraging, $WORM, and Blueprints Season One left farmers wanting for more — but what the ‘more’ would look like wouldn’t be revealed until after some massive announcements…

Birds on Tour

Chikn made a good impression at our Avalanche Summit appearance in 2022 — such a good impression that they decided to have us back for the second iteration of the summit.

Bird really is the word.

Chikn took to the Main Stage on May 4 to deliver a keynote address to the Avalanche community. In this we discussed our achievements so far, but what piqued interest the most was our vision for the future. You can reminisce over the firey words of Cluck et. al. in our recap article.

The Summit was the first time the world got a look at CoqFight — an upcoming PVP battler that pits two farmers against each other in a struggle for supremacy. The presentation featured a hefty teaser trailer, Alpha gameplay footage and an ambitious end-of-year release date.

Don’t mind the date.

If you had asked us at the time, we would have certainly defended that deadline. But, as it turns out, making a game is a lot harder, more time-consuming, and more expensive than we had initially thought. The team is bootstrapping entirely new capabilities and learning the intricacies of game development, but we were perhaps a little optimistic with our timeline.

A closed Alpha was executed shortly after the summit, yielding fantastic feedback and sentiment, but also an unrelenting perfectionism amongst the team. There’s still a lot to do, but we are committed to efficiency and effectiveness, as always.

CoqFight is one area where we over-promised and under-delivered, which is as disappointing for us as it is for the community. Previous rollouts have followed the exact opposite approach, where big announcements are kept pretty much under wraps until go time. It has been a learning opportunity and one we haven’t missed.

But CoqFight isn’t the be-all and end-all. While development has been slower than anticipated, we’ve doubled down on developing other parts of the ecosystem and engaging the community. Our success isn’t dependent solely on CoqFight, but rest assured, CoqFight is coming.

Another landmark of the ecosystem we’ve been focusing on was also announced during the keynote: ChiknX.

ChiknX

Ahead of the curve on ‘x’ based branding, ChiknX is a program of upgrades, rollouts and collaborations that aims to bring us from our humble home on Avalanche to the wide world of multi-chain web3 and beyond.

You’ve heard us chirp about ChiknX all year, and right after we get through a much-needed Zinger Box the morning after this celebratory week, we’ll be diving right into some very, very exciting ChiknX updates. There’s going to be a whole other Medium on this, and if everything goes right, we’ll have plenty of content for our third birthday article.

ChiknX was a massive announcement for us and the farmers in our community. For starters, we announced that we’d be minting a collection on Polygon while at the Avalanche Summit. While unintentional, this was met with some controversy. However, we certainly see nothing controversial about advocating for the prosperity of our project and of Avalanche.

That collection, known creatively as ChiknX, would be the third bird collection and our fourth major NFT mint. There are very few projects that can get through one mint, let alone four, so we’re pretty proud to be adding another tally to the board thanks to our incredible community.

Unbeknownst to the world, the socialites in the dev team had been charming up the good birds at Chainlink in anticipation of the CCIP launch this year. CCIP is a major step forward in cross-chain infrastructure and will play an essential role in the ChiknX rollout. Plus, we got a top-row feature in their announcement presentation.

A new chapter needed a fresh look, so from the end of last year the chief creative brain Gravy has been locked in the developer dungeon alongside KFC and Hen Solo preparing an entire brand refresh for Chikn. This has so far included a reskin of the web UI and shiny new assets, as well as new birds for future mints.

cleeeeean 🤌

Like a hearty broth for the days you’re under the weather, this new style captures the essence of Chikn while making everything tasty for a wide audience. We love our OG birds and they’re not going anywhere, but expect to see a bit more polish around the roost very soon.

Despite Gravy not having seen the light of day for close to a year, we regularly throw flowers down into the developer pit and yell words of praise for his efforts. It’s hard to overstate how much of a massive effort it is to completely rework tens of thousands of NFTs and the entire look and feel of the Chikn brand, so next time you see him in chat, give him some kudos for being great at drawing.

Like CoqFight, we got a little bit ahead of ourselves when it came to the ChiknX mint. Dates were set and changed as we kept a close eye on the market, but the omens never quite aligned and our augurs advised against launching before demand for NFTs in general picked back up. But demand can be stimulated, and ChiknX is more than just a mint.

Alongside the NFT collection is a wider program of partner and community engagement. Dubbed ‘Partner Rewards’, this pillar of ChiknX opens the farm to NFTs from other projects — both enabling them to forage and making NFTs from those ecosystems craftable with Chikn resources. As the ChiknX mint looked less and less likely, focus shifted to this aspect of the release and it quickly became the main focus for both BD and backend development.

All this BD wasn’t just concentrated on Avalanche either. Polygon has seen a massive influx of Chikn PFPs on timelines and in spaces as we seeded their communities ahead of the launch.

A massive shout-out to Avalanche NFT OG OneThirdNerd for helping push this for the ecosystem more broadly — NFTs, together, strong.

We just announced recently his official role at chikn as Partnership Coordinator to push forward the ChiknX partner rewards initiative across Avalanche and beyond. Couldn’t think of a better man for the job—welcome aboard 13N.

Birds of a Feather

We’ve already mentioned some of the partnerships we announced this year —there are a few of them in the Eggnite section if you managed to skip it.

We also talked about CCIP and the collaboration with Chainlink. We’re excited that we can use that word here, as we are both integrating CCIP and working closely with their team to make sure it hums along perfectly.

The hard work the team had been doing to cement this partnership came to a head in September as the globe-trotting Sherbok Holmes found his way to Singapore and Token 2049. There he brushed shoulders with the greats of the crypto industry, shook some in-person hands from Chainlink, and secured an all-important sponsorship deal from a local chicken chain.

One of the major collaborations that we’ve been hyped on this year is with, of course, our friends at MadSkullz.

We’ve been buddies with the the Skullz for many a moon, and this year xFLSH made a return to FarmLand rewards. We also saw a Chikn portal open in SkullzCity, spreading $WORM and Items to stakers on their platform.

A big shoutout and congratulations to MadSkullz for their most recent mint, taking their collection cross-chain in the spirit of multi-chain mingling that we’re all about. They also helped us host a dope afterparty at the Avalanche Summit, so let’s not forget about that highlight too.

The Future of the Coop

The path toward world coq domination is long and winding, and like the pioneers of old we often walk without a guide. That’s not to say there isn’t a plan — it’s more a poetic way to say it’s a bad idea to post a roadmap.

The Chikn roadmap is something that has often stirred up some controversy. We’ve learned, often the hard way, that managing expectations via a published plan can lead to disappointment. It’s also something that we recognise is important for a community that has committed to our vision.

In the early days of Chikn we leaned heavily into a philosophy of ‘under-promise, over-deliver’. This led to some pretty exciting moments — Roostr, FarmLand and the Foraging release among them. This also gave us the flexibility to release things when they were ready, rather than sticking to a deadline set well in advance.

In the bear market, we switched tone to be more open and transparent about our plans — ChiknX and CoqFight being the big-ticket items. While the excitement got sucked out of web3 during the bear, we thought it was necessary to reassure everyone that we were still here and still building with a steady stream of updates and reassurances.

With the ChiknX mint and CoqFight release, this came around to bite us. We started talking about these releases before they were ready and before we had a full grasp on what conditions were needed to send them live. While this was disappointing for us, it was more disappointing for you. So many members of the community stuck by us through this period without any major releases — there wasn’t a single day that the Discord fell silent or the Twitter feed didn’t see coq posting. All we can say is that we’re sorry for missing the mark with the schedule we committed ourselves to, and we’re sorry if we ever underestimated your commitment to Chikn.

Moving forward, we aim for a return to the original tone — surprise releases that cause excitement and keep people on their toes. You already know the plan: ChiknX partners, the ChiknX mint, ongoing improvements to the dAapp, culminating in the release of CoqFight. We want to make sure we get these things right, and we want to make sure we create excitement when they’re ready.

As we head into another bull market, there are many exciting opportunities for Chikn. We’ve said many times that the pieces are there — now is the time to fit them together to complete the puzzle.

In the long term, we see the Chikn brand extending far and wide. The direction we’re heading in emphasises community, culture, vibes, and the power of memes over a singular focus on utility and tokenomics: this, after all, is what appeals to the widest base of users. By creating an interesting and engaging product, we can create users that support the intricacies of our token environment. And by creating pathways for new offshoots and partnerships, we can transform Chikn into a storied universe with transmedia elements that make it compelling for anybody to engage.

Expect nothing, but be ready for anything.

Also, Roostr Daycare soon.

State of the $EGG

Firstly, $EGG gud coin. Our poor eggies have been battered around and smashed on the proverbial kitchen floor by this pesky bear market, not to mention AVAX’s hefty 95% drawdown. Yet here $EGG stands. Our chikn still lay them, and we all still burn them — resulting in exceptional tokenomic strength from both a utility and liquidity standpoint. The chikn game continues to function fully due to robust, market agnostic tokenomics, so you can always upgrade your NFTs.

In terms of the team — they continue to draw their allocation at a slower rate than allowed. You heard that right. What team in the history of crypto has ever left their allocation vested longer than the minimum required!? Are they crazy? It’s almost as if they actually care about the systemic health of their tokenomics. Regardless — if you’re ever interested — everything happens in the public eye, directly on the chain, all through securely time-locked Open Zeppelin contracts.

When we launched in 2021, Sherbok published some famed forward projections for token emissions. He’s so stoked that the predictions match up surprisingly well with reality that he’s asked us to make special mention of this fact.

Well done, Sherbok — the Chikn tokenomics have made it through the bear unharmed!

State of the $FEED

For those old enough to remember the end of $FEED emissions last year, you might recall a slight change to the tokenomic projections when the devs donated their allocation to LP Farm rewards, putting, finally, all tokens into circulation in around December last year.

The only $FEED that remains either out of circulation, out of hungry bird bellies, out of LP, or out of community wallets is an 800 million $FEED allocation in the Chikn DAO treasury. There are still no plans to touch this allo for now, so $FEED maxis can rest easy.

As of writing, around 9 billion $FEED has been burned, leaving around 3 billion in circulation. This figure includes the 800m in the treasury, so excluding that, we’re left with just 2.2 billion tokens floating around.

As $FEED continues to burn as chooks get bigger, the question about its place in the ecosystem remains hotly debated.

All we know for now is that $FEED is definitely not a memecoin on AVAX.

State of the $FERT

$FERT launched in mid-April 2022 shortly after Roostr entered the world.

Token emission projections were made on the assumption that 70% of Roostr are fed 70% of the time. Sherbok admittedly took an L on this one, overshooting by a decent amount. The original projections estimated that around 1 billion $FERT would have been squirted in the first year. Over 500 days post-launch — the actual figure is closer to around 250 million $FERT. Of this supply, around 76% has been burned, leading to lots of rich FarmLand soil, plenty of happy worms, and roughly 60million $FERT in circulation.

When questioned about this miss-match between projections and reality, Sherbok assured us that he’s not even mad. Slower $FERT emissions have led to a more stable tokenomic situation overall as burn rates have kept up with emissions. Emissions for $FERT naturally adjust with the burn mechanisms as players upgrade their NFTs, ensuring the game continues to function healthily.

10% of the projected first year’s supply (100 million $FERT) was allocated to liquidity, to be minted over two years from the token’s launch. To reflect the new outlook, we’re happy to announce that:

75% of this 100million $FERT will now be extricated from the allocation. That’s right, another 75 million $FERT permanently burned.

The surviving tokens will also remain unminted for the foreseeable future.

In other $FERT news? The $FERT squirters themselves, Roostr, cracked a combined roost weight of 500,000 KG in November — congrats to everyone who keeps their coqs sated, and to those that don’t, please feed your birds — they’re hungry!

State of the $WORM

Life After $FEED Farming got a little cheerier with the launch of $WORM late last year. Our little friends report that they’ve settled into their role as FarmLand productivity managers and are more willing than ever to throw themselves under the crafting hammer in service of item production.

There are no changes to $WORM emissions to report and the token will continue to play a vital role as a multifaceted utility and rewards token in the ecosystem. As for additional planned utility, there is nothing that we will say for now. Perhaps there’s alpha out there. Perhaps there isn’t. You’ll need to be the judge of that.

All we know of is a slew of incredible new projects and communities are about to start roaming on our farms and looking to burn these little critters! The majority of users to this day are still missing the meta of this Play-to-Own economy, but for those who are astute (looking at you, Grenville) — bravo. Your work will continually be rewarded.

The Greatest Community on Chain

It’s not an exaggeration to say that we wouldn’t be anywhere without our amazing community. The last 12 months have been particularly difficult in web3 and many of the projects we called peers at our last birthday are no longer here to celebrate alongside us today. The fact that Chikn is not only here but thriving is a testament to the belief you have in us and the conviction you have in what we’re building.

So, right at the top, thank you. Seriously. This is as much your project as it is ours, and we hope you’ll be here with us for many more birthdays to come.

The passion the community has for Chikn isn’t just demonstrated by the fact that you’re all still here. Just as we’ve had our heads down building, so have you — and there are some incredible things to show for it.

No mention of community achievements can be made without a shoutout to Search. Over the last year, EggBurn has grown in scope and complexity, and today sits not only as the gold standard for Chikn third-party tooling but the gold standard for third-party tooling in general.

On our end, it’s incredibly humbling to see the time, effort, and resources that go into making something like EggBurn that supports something that we launched. Even facing a grilling from Search in a Space or in the Discord is deeply appreciated — it keeps us on our toes and we know for a fact that he has the best interest of the community at heart.

If you’re not a member of EggBurn, we encourage you to seriously consider it. The Great Eggspectations report alone is almost mandatory reading for anyone looking to get an edge in the Chikn farm as it meticulously details the state of the meta in 2023. Flowers to Search and the EggBurn team.

Now that we’ve gushed over EggBurn, we can turn to the many other members of the community worth a gushing.

Long-time farmers are no doubt familiar with the work of our very own Gribbly. Long-time manager of the Eggz private community, Gribbly has most recently launched CoqTerminal, giving everyone fast access to a wealth of Chikn information.

We’d also like to shout out community mod Nifty who has also contributed some powerful dashboards to CoqTerminal. Whether you’re looking to learn more about coqs or get an overview of what’s going on with foraging, CoqTerminal is the place to be.

On the subject of mods, we want to thank all of the amazing people who spend time every day ensuring the community server stays the place you want to be:

OneThirdNerd, Lgeeh, CaptiaNifty, Vagabond Caravan, Mythone and SteeeeeevO.

We’d also like to raise a toast to the mods that have fallen, LaverDude, Nik and Monegg.

Tooling and moderating aren’t the only contributions our humble farmers make. There’s a massive variety of content that we see every single day — from shitposts to podcasts — and it’s all incredible.

Luke and Adrian took to the mic this year with the 2Six Media Podcast, and featured your humble devs in an ongoing series on the Chikn ecosystem.

Dano continues to be the master of the thread, providing amazing insights into optimal farming practices.

Viper threw his hat into the arena this year with incredible insights as the Thoughtful Chikn Farmer hit Medium and the airwaves.

The Humble Chikn Farmer, FarmLand maxi, and resident numerologist, Grenville, also needs a shoutout for always making us re-read every communication before posting lest it includes an alpha leak.

Jafar and Shaukath at ChiknOGMeme clocked another year without taking any time off from making almost daily memetic content for the feed.

Chikn NFT News also helped the feed out by diligently archiving the hits from around Twitter on their own profile.

Clint and Search stayed ever present, giving us hope of a return to daily BokCast scheduling.

Ainur embraced Chiknstagram with a fervour we had never expected, giving us new insights into yet-unspoken Chikn lore.

Wojak proved that your size is not size when it comes to coq size — not that we didn’t already know it.

And ChiknSultan and Sir Boksalot burned so much $FEED and $EGG that the WFP will probably start taking notice very, very soon.

To the unsung helpers from behind the scenes, thank you as well. Chiktoria, Peter Pecker, and Crispy have poured sweat and tears into CoqFight, and we hope you’ll have a first-hand look at their work very soon. And to Tortilla and Professor Yolk, ever-vigilant guardians of the feed, cheers to another year of hundreds of thousands of words penned in the name of coq.

We also need to of course shout out some of our amazing partners:

MadSkullz, for partying hard, staying the multi-chain course and giving us plenty of xFLSH to drool over.

ChiknWhaleGod and CloudHeadz for raining on the parade, but in a good way.

And LoveMonster, for doing what we all want to do and actually getting your game on the App Store.

We could write thousands of words more thanking every single one of you that boks out on the feed, slides in our comments, graces us in Discord, and makes Chikn the amazing project that it is today. While we don’t have the space for that here, just know that we appreciate every single one of you — this birthday is for you.

Another Run on the Board

If you’ve ever seen a documentary about sea turtles, you’ll have an idea of what running an NFT project is like. Thousands of little turts hatch into the world and scurry toward the sea—few make it to the watery embrace of the surf.

For those that enter the water, the danger is far from over. A small number survive their first years in the perilous shallows to reach maturity.

But those that do survive, that make it through the tough years of their infancy, look forward to a long life as the majestic wardens of the sea.

Friends, farmers—we are now in open water.

As we celebrate our second birthday and reflect on where we’ve come, we can be optimistic about what lies ahead. We are among the few that have struggled through their infancy and grown into a project that might very well stand the test of time. The ocean is big and full of danger, but if we can make it to two, there’s no reason we can’t make it to twenty-two.

We already know some of the things that we’ll be writing about next year—ChiknX and CoqFight being two of the major items. But we’ll also have a lot more to reflect on as the year rolls around. Some of these things are already planned, some will be surprises. We’ll toast some of the stalwarts of the community, maybe farewell some others, and welcome in many, many more. There will ups, there will be downs, and there will be uncertainties and trials for us to face. But we know for certain that we’ll be there, to celebrate birthday three, and with an article like this to document them all.

After all.

!chiknislife

Thank you all again for believing in Chikn and for making our humble farm the incredible community it is today. As we said before, this is as much your celebration as it is ours, and we mean that sincerely.

Bok Bok,

And Happy Birthday,

The Chikn Team ❤️🐓
