#Eventprofs – Tips to get your event trending: PART FOUR
Hashtag Awareness.
The social media / online success of your event has a 50/50 split responsibility – it is down to you AND your audience.
- Promoting your event hashtag PRIOR to the event day is really important. If people don’t know about the hashtag how can you expect them to use it effectively? All pre-event communication should include information about your event’s social media accounts and the hashtag that will be used. It is worth noting that not everyone is on Instagram or Twitter – maybe you can include a line asking them to join the social platforms and include links to sign up pages in advance of them attending.
- Engage with people online don’t put your tweets to a megaphone and hope someone is listening e.g. find tweets / photos using your hashtag and start a conversation with them – ask them if they are aware of public transport options available to get to the venue in advance of the event. You can also weigh in on topics related to your event and its attendees to engage them in advance of the day and ask them to join the conversation at a specific time of your event.
- Use plenty of signage around the building on the day of the event, detailing the hashtag and social media platforms you are using. This encourages people to participate – you can even go as far as putting a sign on their tables encouraging them to share a photo of their favourite food of the evening.
