Sign of Change

Sign of Change is a handheld LED stick that can be programmed to display a scrolling message. The portable stick is meant to be used by students during protests or rallies. My concept was to create a product that enables students to organize around causes they care about.

During the sketching process, I considered how the LED dot matrix, battery, and Arduino could be contained but still easily removed. I decided on a cylinder because it is easy for a hand to hold. Placing the LED inside a baton would also make it small, compact, and portable.

The final design consists of two 3D-printed parts that fit together. The top part holds four LED dot matrices which display the scrolling text while the bottom part holds the Arduino Nano and battery.
