A “GRIT” Experience…

KodeCamp 2.0 Experience

The most important factor is GRIT.

About four months ago, when the 2.0 cohort started with the very first task on GRIT, I felt it was one of those ‘welcome’ requirements. But, it turned out a lesson for life: A daily reality. In tech and life, grit is more important that your latent talent. So, my KodeCamp Experience is a grit-based story of transformations in:

1. Design Process
2. User Research
3. Problem Solving
4. Communication and Collaboration.

I want to grow to replicate the goodwill extended to us.

First off, I wish to thank the Mentor of Mentors: Engr. Aniebiet Udoh for offering thousands of interns the priceless opportunity to blend into the tech network/community for free. This goodwill shall continue to resonate in our minds. In essence, to whom much is given, much is expected.

Similarly, the efficient management of the program by the Program Manager Mr. Ikechukwu Achom (Ikeys) is very much appreciated. Much regards to the tireless mentors who directly impacted me: Favour (Fae), Ihiechi Okwelle, Chiehiura Basil (DesigneChi), Chudi Victor, David Emeka, Ogochuks, Phemmyblaze, and others. Thank you for your selfless service to the community and humanity. Thank you Mentor David Nwaokoro, your unique way of task appraisal, comments, and suggestions were highly appreciated.

A bit of luck happened to me

This appreciation note won’t end without a special mention of my hero of this program — Mentor Chudi Victor! Chudi looked out for me when my grit depleted, notwithstanding the rat race and his busy schedule. I literally shut down when I encountered a schedule-related crisis — family, work, learning.

I mean, this dream could have been dead at stage six without his attention to little details. Prior to that, I have never encountered him directly: not on my Figma board, not in class, not on Slack but he observed a lull in my participation. Thank you once again Chudi.

In your tech journeys, make friends early enough.

Please permit me to relive the memories of my old friend(s): Mary Ikwuegbu. During the period I decided to pursue other priorities, Mary wrote to me on the 16th of June, 2022, and said:

“I am not leaving KodeCamp alone, you are leaving with me”

I read her message and continued my other activities. It felt impossible. However, her words managed to stick. While I raced in three days to catch up with Stages 7 and 8, her words kept me going.

Well, Mary is right. We are Finalists.

You might lose some friends but keep making more across the tracks
