The contrast ratio of an LED display refers to the brightness range of the display, that is, the difference between the brightest and darkest parts that the display can display. Contrast is an important display parameter that affects the quality of images and videos, as well as the user’s perception of the displayed content. Generally speaking, the higher the contrast ratio of an LED display, the better the quality of images and videos, because high contrast can present more details and deeper blacks. This is important for a variety of applications such as film, advertising, digital signage and surveillance.
The contrast of an LED display is usually measured by two parameters:
Static Contrast Ratio: This is the ratio of the maximum brightness to the minimum brightness of the display at different brightness levels. Static contrast ratio is usually expressed in numbers, such as 1000:1, 2000:1, etc. Higher static contrast indicates better performance. This is usually sufficient for general office and entertainment use.
Dynamic Contrast Ratio: Dynamic contrast refers to the ability of the display to automatically adjust the brightness in different scenes to obtain higher contrast. For example, when a black scene appears on the display, the Dynamic Contrast feature can reduce the backlight brightness to increase the depth of blacks. Dynamic contrast ratio is usually expressed in numbers, such as 100,000:1, 1,000,000:1, etc. Higher dynamic contrast delivers more vivid images, especially when viewing high dynamic range (HDR) content.
The contrast of an LED display is affected by many factors, including screen flatness and screen surface reflectivity, LED display gray scale, dot spacing, lamp bead quality and failure rate, etc.
Screen flatness and screen surface reflectivity: Local bulges or recesses in the LED display will lead to blind spots in the viewing angle of the display. The surface flatness must be within ±1mm to ensure that the displayed image is not distorted. At the same time, reducing the reflectivity of the LED panel can improve the contrast of the display and make the image clearer.
LED display gray scale: The higher the gray scale, the richer the colors and the more gorgeous the colors. On the contrary, the display color is single and the changes are simple. The improvement of gray scale can greatly enhance the color depth, making the display levels of image colors increase geometrically.
Dot spacing: The smaller the dot spacing, the more delicate the picture will be displayed, and the contrast will be improved accordingly. What is a fine-pitch LED display?
Lamp bead quality and failure rate: LED display screens are composed of tens or even hundreds of thousands of groups of red, green, and blue LED lamp beads. The brightness of LED lamp beads will slowly decay as the use time increases. The attenuation speed of LED lamp bead brightness is closely related to the LED chip, auxiliary materials, and packaging process.
