When MEN Look DOWN on YOU (…2)

In Kai Havertz’s initial number of matches for Arsenal, he was the ‘cynosure’ of all eyes and ‘mother’ of all criticisms. He was a contrasting figure of contradiction, nay “selfdoubt” as well as public “probity", curiosity and scrutiny personified.

On the minds of overwhelming but certain number of spectators, supporters and soccer pundits, one question was apparently reoccurring:

“Is this the Kai Havertz we saw at Chelsea or are we to look for another?”

But slowly and steadily, the players in a show of classical solidarity; celebrated his first-ever goal on the shirt of the Gunners. A very generous Gabriel Jesus or Nketiah or Saka (I’m not too sure now) had handed him the ball to score from the penalty spot thereby giving him a handsome huge relief of hope.

In a recently international duty for native Germany, he scored for the German Machines.

As if that was not enough, he scored the winning goal that gave his club all three points in a top Premiership clash against Brentford to the delight of mutually relieved Arteta.

Havertz also made it 3/3 when he scored against Luton Town and most recently Brighton Hove Albion providing the second goal in the latter. What happened to the Kai who had fired blank in as many games, even from incredibly close ranges? What brought about the reversal of misfortune?

All these analyses point to a conclusion. In the wisdom of the African-cum-Nigerian Igbo, no matter how critical the situation might be:

“You cannot bury a man who has not yet ceased breathing.”

Invariably, consistency and “selfbelief” are crucial in the “war” against being looked down upon by men. Minding your own “business" is equally invaluable. Having someone, no matter how minor, express their support for you is potently helpful.

In the final analysis therefore, I personally found this inscription (called syllogism in Philosophy) on a casual tee-shirt quite instructive, thus:

“I am nobody.

Nobody is perfect.

Therefore, I am perfect.”

Amusingly inspirational, unconventionally instructive and unusually educative: “when men look down on you", look up.

Someone, somehow make ‘nobodies' to become ‘somebodies’ — making those who had looked down on them to somehow, sometimes, somewhere LOOK UP to them.

Criticisms are welcomed.

*The term “hattrick" (hat trick) refers to when a player scores three goals in a match.
