  1. What did you do this past week?
  • This past week I worked on Darwin, I saw Parasite which is a Korean movie I have been anticipating very highly. Wonderful film, 10/10 recommend. Did too many interviews. Continued wrapping up plans for Diversity in Tech Day. It was a lot of quizzes, homework, projects, etc.
  1. What’s in your way?
  • This upcoming week is crazy packed, and I am not sure how everything on my todo list is going to pan out to be honest, but I will just keep going with the flow. I think taking advantage of my time while I have it, is the key. I get distracted pretty easily, so I just need to channel a sense of focus to be a productive a possible.
  1. What will you do next week?
  • My upcoming week is pretty unusual. Monday is a regular class and meetings day, Tuesday is Diversity in Tech Day. DITD is a project that I have been facilitating and planning for over a month (technically ayear in the works). I love doing Outreach work, connecting minority students with access and awareness to resources in education, specifically education about tech. So I have been working with Austin Achieve High School to bring 30 of their students to UT Austin for a full day of tours and education and fun. The day involves a tour of the Visualization lab, a tour of the UT Austin Villa Robot Soccer Team, a tour of the EER InventionWorks garage, and more. It is packed day of events, but I am really looking forward to it! I’ve worked really hard on it, and am really excited to see how it will o. I have never planned something to this scale, so it will be interesting. After Tuesday, I will be going to Oakland for AfroTech a conference for black people in technology. It is a really awesome chance to be in a space of black people, who work and have a passion for tech. So that will be really cool to make connections and learn! I also plan to really go turbo mode and wrap up my progress on Darwin before I leave!
  1. What was your experience of the vector implementation? (this question will vary, week to week)
  • My experience with vector implementation was more complicated than the other concepts we have covered. I am not sure why I am confused on the methods where we used swap and copy. I also need a better handling on where const needs to be place in method headers and why. I will just keep practicing these concepts and reading the OOP book for a better understanding, I also plan to head to office hours before the next exam to get help from the TAs on bettering my understanding.
  1. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
  • My tip of the week is to do something abnormal in your week. This could be choosing a random day in the middle of the week, hopping on a bus and going to Gourdough's for donuts. It could also mean, scrolling through HornsLink, and going to a meeting for an organization you have never been to before. Doing something out of the ordinary in your week can give you a chance to have a new perspective on your time and your day to day. As students it is easy to get trapped into the “UT Bubble”, especially if you live on campus. Doing something unexpected, going somewhere new, seeking discomfort in your can be beneficial to how you perceive your time and also it is a good chance to do something nice for yourself.
