Formation Doesn’t Include Me — And That’s Just Fine

I disagree completely. Let’s get one thing straight. I am not responsible for ANYTHING my ancestors did. Period. Ever. I don’t owe anyone anything neither do they me. This idea that I will have to carry the burden of some horrible historical event as if I were personally responsible is absolutely ludicrous. My ancestors did not sign ANYTHING away from me. Let’s think about that logic for a moment. I am to be held responsible and told what I can and cannot say or sing because 100's of years ago, people with a similar skin tone as I have were horrible people and did horrible things to black people? That makes no sense. AT. ALL!

If I should not listen to or sing along to any song “using the n-word or celebrating their race” then it shouldn’t be on the radio that WE ALL SHARE! That’s insane! “You can’t sing along to this song! You’re white! Quick change the station!!!” Absolutely absurd.

I like Beyoncé and I commend her for performance and the song, despite how she knew it might be taken by some people. Good for you girl! I think self empowerment is a beautiful thing and I wish more people could find it. And maybe this song will help them. But I highly doubt Beyoncé would say “oh. Excuse me. You’re white. You can’t listen to this song. No no stop singing. Go outside. You can come back into the venue when I start singing about my ass again. It’ll only be like 2 minutes. Thanks cracker!”

No no. Not what she intended at all. I for one will listen to whatever song I wish whenever I wish because that is freedom and that’s what we all have. White. Black. Whatever! We are all free! This song should bring people together. Not separate them even more.
