Disney Pin Trading in Tokyo?

Disney park which does not allow pin trading

The best thing I love about Disney Resorts around the world is pin trading. However, Tokyo Disney Resort (TDR) does not officially allow pin trading.

Following the start of the official pin trading in US in 1999, TDR has started pin trading in November 2000. But alas, the joy was short-lived as official pin trading came to an end in 2002. Now, you’ll still find pins for sale at the resort and Disney Stores, but you can never find a cast member with a lanyard with pins on it. Unlike pins at the other resorts, pins at TDR have “pin collection” logo on the back, instead of “pin trading” one.

Pin traders in Japan

So, does it mean there are no pin traders in Tokyo? — No.

While you cannot find them trading at the resort, there’s a small community who trade pins via mail or at unofficial meetups.

These pin traders in Japan are active on Twitter, and some also use Instagram. Given the nature of each service, people tend to update Twitter more frequently. Interestingly enough, they tend to post in Japanese language on Twitter, and in English on Instagram. So, for non-Japanese speakers, Instagram would be better to get to connect with them.

Many people ask me to recommend a Facebook group to trade with Japanese pin traders, but it’s actually hard for me. While they do exist on Facebook, many traders prefer to remain discreet…
