Sleep deprivation is not a badge of honor

I remember hearing my young compatriots talking about pulling all-nighters and thinking the must be poor managers of their time. I was correct. They were. But then, don’t managers see the willingness to get tough when the going gets tough as a badge of honor? Never mind that the tough was 100% not necessary.

Still, I willingly fell victim to this corporate culture virtue and it almost killed me. It certainly broke me, my career, and then my marriage. Getting enough consistent sleep is far more important than eating correctly or getting enough exercise.
