KING OF THE ENGLISH WILDERNESS 2016–17

It’s that time of the year again. No! Nope; it’s not Christmas nor are wedding bells ringing. It’s something far far more important than the special bond between man and wife. I look around thanking my stars that I stay alone and I’m not married for the fear that I’ll be whacked by my special lady.

Yes that’s right it’s football season in England, and the stars are certainly out to shine this season. Big money has been spent by a lot of the big clubs and the so called big four are big no more. I say that from a point of view that now the likes of Tottenham and based on recent events even Leicester have been thrown into the fray along with the more traditional top four of yester years.

It’s certainly a season with a script made in heaven. Manchester City have got themselves all Pepped up for this season with the Special One taking over a very Special Team. That’s a mouth- watering rivalry that is all set to play out which will be just one of the many sub-plots to unfold in this season’s campaign. Add to that the newly crowned King Ranieri who has managed to keep the bulk of his loyal subjects under his wing for now and the fact that it is very much Klopp for the Kop and he’s had a chance to do some recruitment of his own, which means that there is every chance of a resurgent Liverpool, who one hope’s can produce football previously written in their folklore.

Off course let’s not forget Arsene and his Arsenal, and the new Lord of Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte has taken charge of a deflated Chelsea side and is now looking to spin his tactical magic after successful spells at Juventus and in charge of the Italian national side.

The issue I see with Arsene’s men is that it is very much more of same ol’ same ol’ and I’m sorry Mr. Wenger but all that glitters is certainly not gold. In my opinion it’s time up for Arsene and he should have said his farewell a couple of seasons back. Having said that if he wants to silence his critics then there is no better time than now as we have a host of masterminds and tacticians all as Managers’ in this season’s English Premier League.

Pep has forbidden pizza and is making anyone overweight train separately till they meet the Spaniard’s high standards. Conte has already been seen extremely animated in the friendly matches that Chelsea have been involved in and Mourinho has been busy with both outgoing and incoming traffic.

With Pep recruiting the likes of Gundogan, Sane and Nolito and the other half of Manchester bringing in Zlatan, Baily, Mkhitaryan and maybe even Pogba sometime soon the London clubs better be on the watch.

All in all an exciting season awaits as we will watch all the drama and action unfold in front of our very own eyes. Who will be the new King, who will fall like a jester in a court that he never really belonged to, and who will slay the newly Crowned King’s of England at the Kingpower.

Please join me as I attempt to cover this season’s football with a weekly round-up of matches here on my blog- The Yellow Card.

Cheers!!!
