Distance
On the rooftop, as the sound of engines roaring subsided, the hands of time started stalling until it finally gave out. The gusty wind of just a moment ago stopped right in its tracks. The memories started kicking in. As he went for the cup, the silence broke with a splash of a drop on a nicely decorated polythene bag.
He heard footsteps and then a loud slam. He turned, said smiling, “ I was just about to…”.
“ You do it over and over again, You never listen, I am tired of all this. It’s your last chance, show some work! Think about it! its now or never”
The throbbing of the engines woke her up. She dashed downstairs. The curved stairs was a second too late to change into a slide. Tears slithered down her eyes. “ Finally! this is it. All the best.”, hugged him.
He took the turn. A right too late. The throbbing silenced. He got out, slammed the door shut. He looked up. A drop, then two. Soon after the first, a tsunami flooded his face. He fell down with a smack, his head hit the ground hard. He should have cried out loud in pain. But, his cry was his tears.
A few months later…
Something was different that day. The sun rose from the west? No, even better, he woke up early. She returned, as promised. They took their vows. It was a happy ending. All those tears paid off.
Wait!
A few years later…
“ Dad! mom’s on the phone asking for you”
Barely walking straight he answered the phone, “ whaaaaaaaatzzzzz, okaaaaaaaiiiiiiyyyzzzz, noooooo I aaaaiiiiiiiim frusshhhhhhhhhhhh…nwooo bebbbi I havven fogotttan…. okaeeeeeey ccccc uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu”
