AWS announced 3 new cloud AI services

AWS re:Invent is the annual conference for partners and users of Amazon’s cloud services and is a main source of news. There are three brand new web services powered by deep learning to notice:

Amazon Lex will allow to literally “bake intelligence” into the software under development. Amazon Rekognition is designed to discover objects, people or even cope with facial expressions recognition. Amazon Polly represents a text-to-speech recognition service. It performs the typed words translation into the voice with a bit of a smart editing. Even more stunning web opportunities from Amazon are on the way in 2017!

Open source frameworks like TensorFlow ultimately change the ways we create and interact with machine learning applications

Google Brain team has developed and finally released the open source TensorFlow 1.0 version.

Since the first introduction in 2015, the broad developer community has gradually helped to upgrade it and added new features. It has made this framework the most popular to work with when it comes to machine intelligence. TensorFlow alike solutions are the key for reducing efforts, time and costs for creating complex AI systems. Being free-for-all, the TensorFlow ecosystem broadens with new techniques and opens possibilities to deal with real-life problems using deep learning.

Partnership AI Board of Trustees expands to help us develop a friendly AI

This consortium was established to “benefit people and society”, in other words to care about issues related to artificial intelligence, its ethical and fair development in particular for years to come. Apple in the person of Tom Gruber eventually has joined an AI research group as a founder member alongside other big names on the market, such as Microsoft, IBM, Google DeepMind, Amazon and Facebook.

The community awaits the announcement of Partnership’s initial program of research and activities, while the first meeting of the Board of Trustees was appointed on February 3rd in San Francisco. So we are all waiting for updates.

Google launches developer preview of Android Things platform

From now on, if you can build an application, you can build a device. Hot air, you say? Well, looks like a true to fact one with a new Google launch -Android Things platform.

This fresh, consolidated approach to IoT has a promising future. So far, it allows to build embedded devices on top of Android APIs and, of course, Google’s services. Meanwhile, the OS is running in the background, allowing smart devices to handle complex tasks on their own instead of calling on a server for data processing. So a user does not even notice any working process. What else? Hardware partners start to appear, for instance Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210 chip. It will add support for Android Things later this year. More details are expected at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on 27 February.

New progressive JS framework, Vue

The end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 is marked with a new progressive JS platform, Vue, for building user interfaces.

Its creators don’t consider it to be “the next shiny thing you should switch to ASAP”. Same, they don’t assume that the framework revolutionizes UI development approach. It’s more about letting a wider audience successfully build web applications. Indeed, in pursuit of the latest trends there is no need to switch to Vue (any of its versions), but you’re welcome to see the complete list of the Vue Comparison with Other Frameworks and just give it a try. What if this new tool would suit you to a T?

To be updated next season. No doubt, spring has a card up her sleeve!
