Question Tag

Question tag คือ คำถามต่อท้ายประโยค เป็นคำถามสั้น ๆ ซึ่งมักจะพบในภาษาพูดของภาษาอังกฤษ

เราใช้ Auxiliary Verb เช่น Verb to Be, Have หรือ Will

ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น Positive เราจะใช้ Negative question tag

Kate will be here soon, won’t she?

Jack is on holiday, isn’t he?

Ann has lived here a long time, hasn’t she?

ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น Negative เราจะใช้ Positive question tag

They don’t like us, do they?

This isn’t very interesting, is it?

Kate will not be late, will she?

ถ้าในกรณีที่ไม่มี Auxiliary Verb เราจะใช้ Do, Does, Did แทน (สำหรับ Present และ Past simple)

They live in London, don’t they?

Karen plays the piano, doesn’t she?

You didn’t lock the door, did you?

I said that, didn’t I?

ถ้าประโยคนั้นมี Modal verb (Can, Could, May, Might ETC) ให้ใช้ modal verb ตามในประโยคนั้นเลย

They couldn’t hear me, could they?

You won’t tell anyone, will you?

ถ้าประโยคที่ขึ้นด้วย Let’s จะใช้ question tag เป็น “shall we”

let’s go out tonight, shall we?

ถ้าประโยคที่ขึ้นด้วย Don’t จะใช้ question tag เป็น “will you”

Don’t drop that vase, will you?

ถ้าประโยคที่ขึ้นด้วย I’m จะใช้ question tag เป็น “aren’t I” (positive sentence)

I’m the fastest, aren’t I?

ถ้าในประโยคมี Adverb เช่น never, seldom, hardly, rarely ซึ่งมีความหมาย Negative ตัว question tag จะต้องเป็น Positive

We have never seen that, have we?

ถ้าในประโยคขึ้นต้นด้วย “this” ตรงส่วน question tag ให้ใช้ “it”

This will work, won’t it?

ถ้ามี Nobody/No one, Somebody/Someone, Everybody/Everyone เป็นประธาน ตรง question tag ให้ใช้ “they”

Somebody wanted to borrow Jack’s bike, didn’t they?

ถ้ามี Nothing/Something/Everything เป็นประธาน ตรง question tag ให้ใช้ “it”

Something happened at Jack’s house, didn’t it?

ถ้าประโยคขึ้นต้นด้วย “There” ตรง question tag ให้ใช้ “there” เหมือนเดิม

There weren’t any problems when you talked to Jack, were there?
