How do u lyk communic8ing?

Dont you just find it so bizarre that I communicate through technology much differently to the individual currently reading this (unless of course you’re a “twelvie”). Let me define a ‘twelvie’ for you. These individuals range from the ages 12 till about 15 who all speak, communicate and somewhat act older than their age. Some of the terms they use are “u” “ur” “thx” “bcuz” “YOLO” “dnt””mii”. You get the gist. However, these individuals are categorised by people who obviously think they are cooler than twelvies.
Idk about you but when it comes to writing a text, email, letter etc. shortening some of the words really does save time (so I’m on team twelvie). And having constant access in changing technology has allowed for quick and easy communication through phones and computers whenever and wherever. This however does pose many different ethical issues for everyone.
An ethical issue that may arise is technical barriers. New phones and new softwares are literally on the market more times then they’re not. This forces individuals to adapt to change and keep up with the latest. A prime example is my Nan. She currently owns an iPhone 4 and only knows how to call people and play bejeweled (haha)! But I can guarantee if I handed her an iPhone 7 tomorrow all chaos would break lose as she would lose her contact with everyone due to having no idea how to use the phone.
Another ethical issue is an individuals socioeconomic status. If an individual is unable to keep up with the latest technology it may affect the way they communicate with people. For example, it may take a couple of days to get back to someone. And we all know living in the 21st century if we message someone we want an instant reply otherwise we will overthink it.
The last ethical issue I can think of is an individuals privacy. Just last week we learnt about the digital footprint and how we can be tracked from literally anywhere. This may affect an individuals communication as the way someone promotes themself on the internet may be completely different to who they are in person which could cause language and communication barriers.
Therefore, my advice to people is to not overexpose themselves on the internet and to stay true to themself. And always “sign out”. Give yourself some time away from technology so you can better your human interaction and face-to-face communication.
Sign out,
Chloe
