When I first started reading I didn’t know where the violence aspect was going to come in. I was expecting something a lot darker, honestly. The title and header threw me off a little bit. However, I never thought about the demographics of the faculty on campus. I, too, assume that the student body is a reflection of the entire campus. Students do make up a significant amount, but we are not the only ones that matter. Not really sure what the stats are on the entire campus, but I am shocked to find that there isn’t much diversity in the theater department faculty.

I also like the ending of this post because it actually made me think about all the assumptions that I make on a daily basis. I work in customer service and you tend to see patterns among different groups of people (especially along racial lines). Not to say every person does behave the same, but some things tend to be brought out based on culture. And I always go into an interaction assuming that I’ll know the outcome. I’ve been trying to check my own preconceptions about people, good or bad, because I wouldn’t want someone to do the same to me. I do agree that it is a form of symbolic violence to assume things about others.
