Soul Cakes traditionally made for Hallows Eve is where people would go and pray for peoples souls in exchange for these cakes or some food.

The practice of door to door started in old England during all saints day to pray for peoples souls, and during the melting pot in the late 19th century North America, the tradition melted into Trcik-O’-Treating.

“In Britain, the alms took the form, not of cash for candles but cake. Bands of ‘soulers’ went from house to house singing ancient ‘souling’ rhymes; and small loaves, quickbreads or cakes were handed out to them to be eaten hot while saying a prayer for the departed.” -Maggie Black

Slowly everything became almost unified, and now Candy is the Soul Cake. No prayer is being offered but thankful and cutely dressed children.
