Tokyo Machine, CHOMPO, and Rec Room partner together for an epic collaboration of video game User Generated Content (UGC) and music licensing
Rec Room is one of the largest VR games in the world with an estimated 70 million downloads. One of the first VR hits, and featured on the Apple Vision Pro Keynote, Rec Room has since expanded to Xbox, PlayStation, iOS, and Android. Within the game, users have the ability to create their own maps, worlds, and games called “Rooms” (broadly known as UGC in the gaming community) for other users to play and experience.
Rec Room was the first VR game Tokyo Machine ever played!
Tokyo Machine headlined the first ever official Rec Rocks music festival inside of Rec Room. He debuted a set of 100% unreleased songs from his label CHOMPO. Thanks to CHOMPO’s innovative licensing strategy, all of the music was able to be live streamed and recorded on platforms like YouTube and Twitch by content creators.
Rec Room worked directly with Tokyo Machine to design an entire stage that took place in the world and brand of Tokyo Machine and his dinosaur CHOMPO.
After the festival, the songs released weekly on all DSPs (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc) through Tokyo Machine’s label, CHOMPO.
The party didn’t stop there. The CHOMPO I compilation album (featuring Tokyo Machine, Nitro Fun, Ephixa, Stephen Walking, MYLK, Saxsquatch, and others) and it’s 14 songs has been added as an in-game Rec Room item. Users can download the CHOMPO songs in the Rec Room store (called “Inventions”) and use them to create brand new Rooms and worlds inside Rec Room.
Rec Room even built a CHOMPO x Tokyo Machine pop-up “vinyl” shop in the game’s main hub, the Rec Center. Tokyo Machine designed the pop-up shop in 2D and then Rec Room’s talented engineers built it in 3D and VR.
Six brand new songs, VIPs of CHOMPO I called RED VERSIONS, will be exclusive to Rec Room until October 23rd, 2023. They are 100% free for users to download and use in-game!
Tokyo Machine and the roster of musicians on CHOMPO jumped right into Rec Room, showing that a music partnership is more than just songs. The musicians allowed Rec Room’s biggest community members to interview them within Rec Room, participated in a Rec Room Paintball Pro-Am event, and played through UGC Rooms (featuring CHOMPO music) that user’s created.
Speaking of UGC, some of the content that user’s made for the collaboration were out of this world!
One UGC in particular, CHOMPOS ADVENTURE, turned the album cover of CHOMPO I into a playable game and Room. In this game, users race through the world of CHOMPO to hatch an Eggo (Tokyo Machine’s pet egg). Once the Eggo hatches, Rec Room users unlock additional in-game items like digital CHOMPO and Tokyo Machine t-shirts.
The fan created UGC, CHOMPOS ADVENTURE, was promoted on socials by Tokyo Machine, CHOMPO, and Rec Room. It was featured heavily in-game by Rec Room, driving countless players to the map. The musicians from CHOMPO filmed themselves racing through CHOMPOS ADVENTURE for their fans to see who would win. The musicians even provided voice acting and access to their IP in-order for fans to create something unique to Rec Room.
Tokyo Machine is not new to fusing music with video games. His songs have been placed in the world’s biggest games. Tokyo Machine syncs include Rec Room, Fortnite, Beat Saber, Rocket League, and even a playable Tokyo Machine character in Smite. He recently remade the iconic Gradius soundtrack for Konami and released music for Sony’s Little Big Planet series. With CHOMPO, his goal is to create the ultimate label for gaming and music.
