The Impostor in the Room

My friend, you are suffering from the same affliction I have…although I do not call it Imposter Syndrome.

There is a book called “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman.

The 5 Love Languages are:

Quality Time

Touch

Words of Affirmation

Gifts

Acts of Service

Although you can find much on the web about these, I call particular attention to “Words of Affirmation.” For me, this gets to the heart of the matter. Perhaps you have a different Love Language. Mine is Quality Time and my backup is Touch. I am told I often use Words of Affirmation with others. Still, when others use them with me such as praise or “attaboys” they often go through one of my ears and quickly exit the other, without the impact that the speaker intended to make on me. I heartily endorse the book and you may find that there are other ways you prefer to have adoration expressed besides words of affirmation.
