what is the vCenter in VMware

A service that acts as a central administrator for VMware ESXi hosts that are connected on a network. VCenter Server directs actions on the virtual machines and the virtual machine hosts

You can install Vcenter Server in a Windows virtual machine on an ESXi Host, allowing it to take advantage of the high-availability that is provided by

VMware HA.

Vcenter 6.5:-

Ø In vCenter 6.0 version Vcenter

Vcenter 6.5:-

 In vCenter 6.0 version VMware is discontinuing vSphere Client.
 vCenter 6.0 version introduces the new HTML5-based vSphere Client.
Upgrade:-
In vCenter 6.5 model vCenter is divided into two types:-
1. Platform service control(PSC)
2. deploy the vCenter Server Appliance

PSC: - In vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1
the administration with the Platform Services Controller Interface, a fully HTML5-based interface to administer and configure many of the services that run on the PSC.
1)Platform services such as:-
• Licensing Service
• Certificate Authority (VMCA)
• vCenter Single Sign-On
• Lookup Service for Component Registrations
Licensing Service:-
The vSphere License service provides common license inventory and management capabilities to all vCenter Server systems
Certificate Authority (VMCA):-
VMware Certificate Authority (VMCA) provisions each ESXi host with a signed certificate that has VMCA as the root certificate authority
VCenter Single Sign-On:-
The vCenter Single Sign-On authentication service provides secure authentication services to the vSphere software components.
2)VCenter Server Services:-
• VSphere Web Client
• Inventory Service.
• VSphere Auto Deploy.
• VSphere ESXi Dump Collector.
• VMware vSphere Syslog

VSphere Web Client:-
The VSphere Web Client connects to VCenter Server instances by using a Web browser, so that we can manage your VSphere infrastructure.
VCenter Inventory Service:-
VCenter Server configuration and inventory data, enabling to search and access inventory objects across vCenter Server instances
VSphere Auto Deploy:-
The vCenter Server support tool that can provision hundreds of physical hosts with ESXi software
VSphere ESXi Dump Collector:-
The vCenter Server support tool. The configure ESXi to save the VMkernel memory to a network server, rather than to a disk.
When the system encounters a critical failure. The vSphere ESXi Dump Collector collects such memory dumps over the network.
VMware VSphere Syslog Collector:-
The enables network logging and combining of logs from multiple hosts. The VSphere Syslog Collector to direct ESXi system logs to a server on the network, rather than to a local disk.
The recommended maximum number of supported hosts to collect logs from is 30. For information about configuring vSphere Syslog Collector is discontinuing vSphere Client.
