First, welcome to Medium. I am new here too. I love to write, and had a very successful blog before I got hired about ten years ago by Apple. They didn’t “force” me to abandon it, they just indicated all the great ways to get fired for having a blog. Doubt they’re like that now.

I am a fifty-six year old with equal experience in Information Technology and Fire Rescue. Its funny, but I’ve identified a few companies’ job postings that would allow me to combine my career experience, having each stovepipe integrate with the other. I just can’t get an interview. I never indicate my age when prospecting, and maybe my resume with thirty years of job history is working against me — from that an employer can easily impute my age.

My advice… don’t give up. I’ve applied for over a hundred jobs I’m perfectly qualified for. Fewer than ten call-backs. Keep your nose to the grindstone, and keep writing. I found your article insightful and validating my own experience.

I have nothing to sell, but I’ve written part one of three of my story about what its like to be a high school graduate and looking for work at 56. Maybe you’d enjoy it… https://medium.com/@chris.church/whats-it-like-being-56-and-looking-for-work-part-one-of-three-c257533edc74.

Best of luck, and happy hunting!
