Nice article,

Accuracy is improved with writing. There is a place for good manners and children have to learn that. But what children have is directness.
I think when talking to strangers we need manners because we have no idea what they are going through. But manners are a protection that can be cast off in favour of accuracy once we do know what is happening.
You imply that cliches are lazy. They can make people feel that you are not special enough.

It can be so hard to be direct and I think that through writing we learn about weak words. What does beautiful mean? Hardly a thing. What does a glass of good wine and Venice have in common?
Almost nothing. Beautiful is a lazy word.
When we confide we do not want lazy answers. Suddenly conventional politeness becomes rudeness. If you can't be helpful then admit it, but never be polite.

I have no idea why you followed me Seth. But I just randomly read that little piece and that is my effort at formalising my own view on the subject.
