Francesco Totti

The now 43-year-old Italian football genius is an iconic name echoed, in not just Italian Football, but European football. Only a handful of players get the chance to play for a top tier club their entire career. Totti is one of them. With immense loyalty, he laced up his boots for over a quarter century with Roma. This made him the club’s top scorer and the second all-time Serie A goal scorer (Only behind Silvio Piola who played between 1929 and 1954). To show Totti’s dominance in Serie A, here is a video depicting the leagues’ top goal scorers between 1959 and 2020:

Totti joins the company of multiple Serie A legends. This includes players like Antonio Di Natale and Alessandro Del Piero. Yet, Totti marks himself as the highest of benchmarks in Italian football history. In fact, in the 2006 season, Totti managed to score not just 26 goals in 35 appearances, but he also helped Roma win back to back Coppa Italias.

He holds numerous remarkable records such as being the youngest Serie A captain at the age of just 22 years and 34 days. He also holds the record for most penalties scored in Serie A history with 71. The danger was lurking every second he infiltrated the opponent’s penalty box.

With little controversy surrounding this, Francesco Totti is simply the greatest Roma player ever. He holds essentially every record in both goal scoring and appearances. For example, he is Roma’s all-time goal-scoring leader with 250 goals in Serie A and 17 goals in the Champion Leagues. Additionally, he is Romas all-time appearance maker in Serie A with 619 games and 57 games in the Champion League. It is incredible to see a single player be able to alter a club’s fate to the extent that he did. He is an Italian Football Legend that will live on forever.
