Jordan Peele Movies Ranked

Within the span of 5 years, director Jordan Peele has made a clear name for himself in the horror genre. Each one of Peele’s films are wholly original and distinct in style, also managing to stir discussion amongst the audience after the credits roll. With his new release out in theaters, here is my personal ranking of Peele’s films from worst to best.

Lupita Nyong’o (Adelaide/Red) in Us (2019)

3. Us (2019)

Starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, Us follows a family confronted by their own doppelgängers, also known as “the Tethered”. Though Us mostly works as a straightforward horror film, the political message, certain themes, and plot twists are handled in a somewhat forced and heavy-handed manner. Nevertheless, it is easily one measure above most modern horror films, due to Peele’s confident direction and ambitious screenplay.

Daniel Kaluuya (Chris) and Allison Williams (Rose) in Get Out (2017)

2. Get Out (2017)

The striking directorial debut that caught everyone off-guard, Get Out exemplifies Peele’s ability to create genuine terror and effortlessly combine it with scathing social commentary and dark humor. The film is also a great example of a director who knows exactly what he wants to achieve from a storytelling perspective. For those who haven’t seen Get Out yet, prepare yourself for a special kind of a horror film.

Steven Yeun (Ricky “Jupe”) in Nope (2022)
  1. Nope (2022)

Once in a while, a special film comes along that reminds me why I love cinema. This year, Nope was that film. The story follows two siblings living on a California ranch who encounter something inexplicable in the skies, with various subplots intertwining alongside it, including one with a former child actor and a murderous chimp. Everything about Nope screams perfection, from the lush cinematography of the nighttime sequences to the heavily layered themes and ideas of spectacle, exploitation, and more. After watching it twice in theaters so far, I can solidify that, without a doubt, it is my favorite movie of the year. A true spectacle that urges the audience to keep watching until the very end.
