Vice President Biden.. Time for Actions.. Not Words

In this current culture, politics are more of a war of words, then a evaluation of a candidates actions. During the primaries.. I never picked Joe Biden. His greatest accomplishments always seemed to rest on the words “I was there!” or “President Obama…” — no calming words of hope, re-assurance or anything that could pull me as a voter to him. He had no real plans, just a list of talking points that he voiced with anger over his fellow candidates. But he is the candidate. And my vote for him is a vote against the sitting President.

In the past few months, I have watched with such worry as the Biden campaign got underway. The pandemic took hold; the President has obviously fumbled the response embracing conspiracy theories and false science over real doctors and experts. And in that vacuum of leadership where was Vice President Biden?

He was on twitter saying things like“…Mr. President step up and do your job” (today’s tweet). Which ok.. yes.. true.. but where is the solution to this ?

Or this from the other day “It’s not enough to just go back to the way things were before these crises — we need to build back better than ever. We have to create a new American economy where everyone gets a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead.” Again, great talking point.. but what is your plan ?

Or another one that he is making into a shirt “When I am President you won’t have to worry about my tweets” — nice shot ! But are we degrading our democracy to rim shots?

Now lets be honest, the chances of Joe Biden ACTUALLY being the one on the keyboard posting this all is pretty slim. But lets take it all at face value.

And certainly when matched up against the current President, calling him out like a high school bully is certainly warranted. But as a voter with a small business, a wife and child.. I want more. No, actually I deserve and expect more.

Consider this note an open letter to the Vice President and your campaign from a Hispanic middle class voter to you.

What I see in your messaging is much the same as we see every election cycle. A lot of talk about change, even some amazing video content about America — but nowhere in there do I see a man taking charge.

Your presence is actually, in some ways, no different then the President. A lot of words and no action.

You see, I think you are missing a GREAT opportunity. You are a man of means, a man with a vast network you have built in your 40 years in politics.

When there were PPE shortages.. you could have used your wealth and connections to privately purchase and deliver the needed gear.

With families looking for ways to pay rent.. you could have used your connections to help negotiate rents with landlords. You see, although you are not President. It does not require an election to office for you, as a private citizen, to go demonstrate how you might lead the country.

Secondly, in your social presence, that I get daily in my news feed, its the same thing “The President should”.. or “when I am President I am”.. none of this means anything to me. In fact, it is the sound of a sports fan criticizing from their couch instead of trying to on the field. Sir, respectfully, make some plays. Get out on the field. More then speeches and public appearances.. I am talking deliver meals to people without food. Do you realize the demand on food banks right now? Help ease the suffering.

Being Presidential is more then creating sets with American flags for you to give virtual speeches. Or sitting in the library of your house in a blue blazer trying to look relaxed. It’s about being among the people. And yes, there is a pandemic — but imagine the good you could do.. right now.. for so many people. Get creative. I am sure you have a highly paid team you are paying to get creative (if not, I am free to help out lol)

It is hard for me to believe that after 40 years in politics you are unable to effect change. That you could not rally a set of allies to do things NOW like :

  • Have Congress declare the KKK a terrorist organization
  • Form a group of Congressional leaders to draft a set of united policing guidelines as “draft” legislation for Congress
  • Go to Portland and meet with the protesters so America can hear their voices
  • Organize food bank drives and deliver goods to Americans who are in need right now
  • Create a summit to negotiate the next stimulus by trying to work with Republicans (let America see you trying to work across the aisle.. now!)
  • Use your own wealth and contacts to obtain PPE for our front line workers
  • Form a private industry collation to bolster non-profits who are helping people with rent during the pandemic
  • Meet with Republican governors, have public, candid conversations (not debates) and find middle ground.
  • Hold forums that are solution based, instead of people just going on about what is wrong. At the end, deliver a concise list of actions that your administration would take to correct course. Then enlist people active in Congress now to start moving on these actions. You see, its about at least making an effort to effect change NOW. Be more then a candidate..assume the role.
  • Talk about your personal story, your tragic losses. The country needs to know you as a father, a husband, a man who knows loss, who knows grief. As a person who can understand the pain that they all must be feeling now.

Mr. Vice President, I hope you know, I have great respect for you and the work you did with President Obama. But right now, I see a man working harder to create division, when we need unity. Its more then simple messaging, this is about action. The country, is, for the most part, at a stand still. We need a leader out there, being of service, being of action. Get out of the balcony sir, and get in the game. You have an election to win and a country in desperate need of healing.
