I wonder how much the rise of SSGs is because of how many millions of “blog” sites are out there that are never really updated or maintained?
Wordpress became so accessible to the non-technical, while at the same time, circa 1995–2005, those folks had it drummed into them, they had to have a blog, you have to brand yourself, etc etc. So all these WP-powered sites went up, and then the owners realized it was a heck of a lot of work to keep a blog fresh, deal with maintenance, updates, security, etc.
Honestly, how many designer’s blogs does the world need? Or pick any other industry… so now, I think people are looking for a static, branding-oriented site, or even a landing page, where they can showcase their work, their capabilities, and a client list, and go on with their real lives instead of having to feed the maw of a blog.
