Step into the spotlight: Maria Gianniou
We’ve all heard of a life/business coach, consultant, healer. But who are they really? What do they stand for? What habits make them the best? What else can we learn from them to help us in our life?
We will embark on a journey to find out, and hope you’ll join us.
Every week, we will ask a professional from the coaching/consulting/healing industry to tell us all about their work and dive deep into their personal favorite tips for a better life.
This week Maria Gianniou is stepping into the spotlight. Let me introduce her to you…
She is an Empowerment & Leadership coach, member of the ICF and founder of Lead From Within. Her practice focuses on empowering people to discover their inner leader. She is the co-founder of Women Act, a non governmental, non partisan organization which aims at empowering women to fully embrace their political, social, cultural and economic potential by actively participating in the public sphere. She is also a research associate at Athens University of Economics & Business. Her academic work, widely published, focuses on EU external relations, especially EU-UN and EU-Mediterranean relations. She has a PhD in History of International Relations from the Sorbonne University, a DEA in European Studies from the Sorbonne University, an MSc in International Relations from Southampton University, a BA in Translation from the University of Strasbourg Marc-Bloch and a BA in European Studies from the Hellenic Open University. She is extroverted, straightforward, communicative and always up for a new challenge. She speaks six languages.
What do you love about your work?
The one thing I love as an Empowerment & Leadership Coach is to be able to help my clients unleash all their potential. People are resourceful and naturally creative, capable of finding answers, taking choices and action. I consider coaching as a journey towards knowledge and fulfillment. What is exciting about my work is that I establish, every single time, a genuine form of collaborative communication with my clients, which leads them to a path of self-discovery and self-awareness. People own their answers and coaching helps them bring them to surface. What motivates me as a coach is my eagerness to learn more about myself and to be able to encourage other people to do the same. Knowledge of the self is the quintessence of life. This is the reason why I founded Lead From Within, an initiative that supports people in their self-exploration.
What type of results do your clients experience?
What is groundbreaking about Empowerment & Leadership Coaching is that my clients, from the very first session, realize that, no matter how stranded they might feel, there is always potential for positive development. I have clients from various backgrounds. People come to me because they seek change, be it professional and/or personal, they want to be more productive, they want to enhance their leadership capabilities, just to name a few. And you know what? They always succeed! Because, at the end of the way, my clients become truly empowered, they acquire the tools and learn how to be genuine and to lead from within.
What advice would you give a young adult about to enter the “real world”? What advice should they ignore?
If I could only give one advice, that would be: Embrace your failures! Learn how to fail! I was lucky enough to be encouraged by my parents to accept that failure is omnipresent in life. They taught me that behind every failure I experience, lies a new lesson to be learned. A new lesson about life, relations with other people, myself. The more you fail, the more you understand your true self. The more you fail, the better you become. So, to all young adults, I say: the next time you fail, ask yourself the following question “what can I do in order to be able to say in a couple of years that this failure was the best thing that happened to me?”. By the same token, I would say that any advice that dissociates you with your true calling and your vision should not be followed. Always trust your instinct!
What habits or beliefs you acquired in the past 5 years that helped you upgrade your life?
The one belief I have, that turned into a habit over time, is that I approach everything with empathy. I truly believe that the ability of empathy is the greatest gift I could offer to myself. It has helped me develop as a human being and as a professional coach. Empathy has upgraded my life in many ways and leads me to conscious positive change. Relations with friends, family and clients are more truthful and sincere and I am able to feel and experience joy from the little things.
What’s next in the cards for you? Tell us about your projects and where we can find you.
More dates will be announced soon for March and April 2019!
