ALCS Birth, World Series Berth

In a similar tone with my thoughts yesterday thinking about the intersection of sports and fatherhood, my friend Shane also had some words to share. You might know him from such nationally-seen media pieces like:

Soak it in, live in the moment, take everything in. Things Kansas City is learning to do for the first time in a generation. A generation of dedicated sports fans that haven’t even come close to a reward. A generation that loved the Royals and the game of baseball for the purest of reasons.
Of course, there are other fans who were there in ‘85 and have endured heartache like none other. It’s almost worse to have tasted of the joy and been deprived for decades than not even knowing what you’re missing. Nostalgia is coming on strong for them as they see many of the players from that championship team being interviewed and the tension they remember witnessing at Royal Stadium wearing their Members Club jackets and showing off their perms they had done that morning (guys included).
Personally, I join the club of Greg Holland, and LoCain welcoming a baby right smack in middle of this historic pennant win. Losing sleep isn’t just limited to staying up to ridiculous hours coping with the overwhelming excitement of yet another Royals win, but meeting the needs of a soul who can’t even grab her own pacifier when it falls out.
For me, Greg, and Lorenzo, we’re taking in every crack of the bat, Let’s Go Royals chant, gushing article, smell of fall air, lights at Kauffman, stranger high five, and sheer unadulterated joy, but without missing any of that, the inhale of every exhale from our brand new babies.
At this very moment in Kansas City, the Royals and our babies are perfect.
Soak it in boys, don’t forget these moments. Your team and babies will never be the same.
