Week 11: Instagram Story Telling

Above is my Instagram post covering the first snowfall of the season impacting the Northeast Kingdom. I decided to take a ride up to Burke Mountain in East Burke and with the help of some elevation, I was able to find some wet snow accumulation. Only about an inch or so had fallen but it was enough to whiten up the ground and trees. The snow was great packing snow for making snowman and road conditions were fine with surface temperatures above freezing.

NBC CT is a great example of social media networking and story telling when it comes to news. In all, it is a great news station and that is why I choose NBC CT to focus on for my station to watch throughout the semester. They currently have over 63,000 followers and almost 4,000 posts. In the past day, NBC CT has posted four times covering any wheres from a school visit to former NYC Mayor Micheal Bloomberg possibly opening a door to run for president in 2020.

NBC CT doesn’t often post to their story but they do go live time to time especially with breaking news or weather. For instance, the other day Chief Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan did a Instagram live for some of the heavy rain they got Halloween night.

I think everything is working for NBC CT when it comes to Instagram. They have lots of engagement with likes and comments. The only thing I would want them to change is start posting story's more. Give reporters access to the page and let them give viewers and followers more of an inside look to stories and events. It would help their engagement a lot I feel.

When it comes to filters, NBC CT doesn't use much. They have a lot of cool graphics and videos but not so much in the way of filter use. I personally don’t tend to use filters. I like my stuff to be natural and clean. If it is a picture and needs to be edited to look good such as brightness, contrast, etc then maybe I would look into filters but otherwise not a big filters guy.

Ways to really tell a story tease is to show visuals, show props like for instance in my post about the snow I picked up some snow to show you how wet it was and if you can, maybe get someone to talk as well to give a little tease of their interview or what they are about. Anything that you think will grab a viewers attention.
