I have thought a lot about my personal use cases for Operator and I would not limit them to the hyper-local or for gifts for someone that I don’t share common interests with (like a birthday gift for a friends young daughter).

I also think they would work well if they live up to their mission of bringing expertise. Based on the sample transactions they show in the app, a major expertise seems to be an encyclopedic knowledge of dresses for wedding/party.

I am planning on having them help me the next time I need to get pants and see how they do. I would also try them for something like snow shoes or wireless head phones. In these cases I would be trusting their recommendations as a trusted adviser for something I don’t want to take the time to learn about or that I have not been able to find information that is clear. As Clay Christensen would say I have a job to be done and I think they are positioned to be a great alternative to get it done.
