Racism does not apply. It requires a systemic power imbalance and subjugation of a specific race of people. There is actual racism in America as it applies to marginalized groups, such as Black people. But America is “racist” toward Russians?!? First off, last I checked, many of them will pass as White, as far as the average American sees it. The anti-Russia stance is aggressive jingoism and nationalism. Nothing more. Just because a Cold War fossil like James Clapper erroneously brings up genetics to justify his beliefs doesn’t mean those skeptical of Putin or the Russian government’s motives are also racist. The correct assertion is that besides national interests, there are vast cultural differences between America and Russia, which drives division. Culture and race can be mutually exclusive constructs.
Homophobia does not apply. All of the jokes about Putin and Trump being lovers are steeped in irony. Do you really think either of them are champions of gay rights? Me neither. The idea was to rattle two unenlightened straight, White, powerful and likely homophobic men by ironically twisting them into a couple. Also, to mess with the countless homophobes who voted for Trump or Russians who support Putin. If you want to read into it as simply homophobic, fine, but you’re a smart cookie. I think you know better. The rhetorical goal was to develop a metaphor that “they’re in bed together,” which is an established political phrase used for decades to describe colluding politicians of both genders.
I am a Bernie/Jill voter. We’re on the same side. I agree with a lot of your points about how bad Clinton really is. But I fail to understand why you end up defending Trump so much of the time. Maybe you have a disconnect because you’re not American and not actually living under the least qualified President in American history. Maybe you want more clicks, comments, or reccommends over manufactured controversy. Whatever the case, you really go out of your way to hem and haw over Trump and Putin, who don’t give a rat’s ass about anyone not in their exclusive circle.
