You shouldn’t get any shit for this. It’s not shaming, it’s best practices for the health of the baby. But folks will find a way to be offended. Some see it as crossing a boundary whenever *anything* is said regarding the agency of a woman’s body. (I’m likely facing a charge of Mansplaining in the 1st Degree for this).

Of course, most all criticisms of women regarding birth control, abortion, physical appearance, aging, etc. are not merely inappropriate, but range from extremely offensive to patently oppressive. Death can result from others in power (moslty men) dictating and controlling choices for women, by laws, policies, and privileged influence within mainstream American culture.

And, this issue is further complicated by addiction. Some may want to stop, but cannot. But society still has a moral obligation to persuade pregnant women to seek counseling or similar supports.
