I Left The “Grand Old Party” Today

Don’t leave! I empathize with but you’re making a mistake!

“The Republican Party I joined promoted fiscal responsibility, strong foreign policy abroad, and individual liberty. The party that I’ve seen of late is one that is none of that.”

I’ve also been a Republican all my life for those reasons. The party has been moving away from those core values for years now. I believe it’s been driven, mostly, by a perceived need to constantly answer the more radical side of the Democrats, who have simply learned how to use modern communication channels better, and Republicans are just bad at it. I have middle school age kids that can’t believe it was the Republicans that fought to end slavery. Why, because the entire party is cast as racists and we don’t do a good job changing that perspective … but this is a whole other topic.

The party “of late” isn’t because of Trump. Trump is because of the party. I simply refuse to believe that most people are voting for his rhetoric. I believe they are voting to punish the party because the party has refused to be better. They have refused to find the strength required to fix the tough problems they have.

One thing everyone seems to agree on, Trump is is changing the party if not outright killing it. If that is true, it must also undergo some rebuilding process. If good Republicans leave now, who will be there to rebuild?

So, don’t leave.
