Mr. E, I bet you are also an ardent Trump supporter too. I beg to differ about your statement of how 10,000 people represent an insignificant percentage of our population- and I agree with you about that it is a very small percent. But the fact that these 10,000 deaths are uneccessary - all of them could have been avoided with stricter gun controls. What number of deaths would you consider significant? 100,000 or one million? You are denying that every life is important. And no I’m not some bleeding heart, the sanctity of life is one of the premises of which western culture is based on, granted not always observed.

As for the 4% who commit a significant minority of gun committed homocides, I’m sure you are right. However, think about the 22,000 suicides committed with guns(1). Wouldn’t you think stricter gun control address this problem.

Please don’t say the dispute is between 2nd Ammendment supporters and those that want to abolish the 2nd ammendment. A large majority of americans say that proper gun use, ie. for hunting is acceptable. We have no beef with you about that. Using guns for self defense is another matter, most gun ownership studies show that gun ownership is hazardous to your health. The chance of shooting a home intruder in overshadowed by the increase of suicide and domestic homocide (2).

Finally name calling does nothing to help your case, it only serves to escalate the situation and to polarize the issue. You disrespect the person. Don’t hate the messenger, hate the message. Just explain you differences and leave at that. Agree to disagree.
