Let’s not forget that VR for the web is 20 years old. VRML was standardized in 1997. I’m still as excited for it as I was back then.

Unfortunately, a lot of problems have not been solved yet. The biggest one is navigation. Cardboard has a spec for a single button, Gear VR has a directional pad (which I find superbly hard to use), and any desktop tethered system has whatever available input devices.

Cardboard and Gear both require you to remove the device from the HMD to navigate. The disruption is more than substantial. It will be interesting to see what interface designers come up with to conquer the lack of additional HCIs.
