Your Original Idea

Ever stop to consider how we get in our own way? How life seems to be so difficult but yet if we were to look deep inside ourselves we would find that the issue isn’t the world but it’s our mind that stops us from doing the things we desire most. For example, as I write this I am thinking about how many people will tear it apart for grammar mistakes, disagreements of opinions etc. However, there comes a point in life where you have to silence the voices that kills action. I am 46 years old and this is the first blog post I have decided to start writing. Why? I don’t write because of the fear of inadequacy. Completely contrived in my own mind. Since I have this difficulty I don’t do anything about it which hinders me starting in the first place. Well, now I’ve started.

Now that I have started, my first topic starts with a question. Is there such a thing as an original idea? Many times in life I have heard there is no such thing as an original idea. It’s already been thought of or done. I have been a photographer for most of my adult life only to find myself not able to come up with original ideas. This type of thinking is false. This has been busted many times with the newly developed ideas you find online and in the media each and every day. Without original ideas there wouldn’t be inventions. Why is it then that I struggle to come up with original ideas? Simple. Fear! Fear of creating something people won’t approve of. Fear of creating the wrong thing? Fear of what others think of me not embracing “reality.” Fear of wasting time. Fear of not being able to monetize that which I create.

Recently, I have taken this approach to produce a much more positive approach.

  • Create a mantra in you mind the will label your philosophy.

I love Jim Rohn’s quote when people say they aren’t doing well. “You have pennies in your pocket, creditors are calling, nothing in the bank, behind on your promises to your family, you live in America, 25 years old, got a beautiful family every reason to do well, and things are not going that well for you, what is wrong here?” The simple answer? you are wrong. My new mantra:

Embrace today! Ideas come and go. Write down the important ones and take action. Trust that God will make your paths straight. Pray to be better in all areas, get more skills, more wisdom and increase my value. Write.

  • If we try to change the way things work we will fight a useless fight. Trying to change the laws of the world we live in is a useless endeavor. Change yourself it’s much easier.
  • Read Everything you can to change your philosophy then act on what you have learned.
  • Pay attention to what others are doing and do the opposite. A good example is that the average american spends 2.8 hours per day watching TV according to the American Time Use Survey.

We have no excuse as to why we cannot do something more. 2.8 hours per day watching American Idol or dancing with he stars. Really? We need to try to move away form this lazy mindset. We have been blessed to live in the land of opportunity. Having access to all in the wold via our computer but choose to sit in our La-Z-Boy’s and call it satisfied? Then we complain about how everything isn’t the way we want it. I refuse to let my life be this boring. I am called to something greater for the God who created me. It’s time to act and this is the proof that I am doing just that.

“There will be no devastation on my last breathe if I don’t own the Jets. There would only be devastation if I didn’t go through the process of trying to get them.” Gary Vaynerchuk
