Life in Korea #1

I guess I will start my small diary inspired by Radina Ralcheva. You can unsubscribe from my feed if you think it’s gonna be too much. The reason I’m doing it is because I think Korea is really interesting place to live and do business, so I will show you really cool places, expose you to the amazing Korean culture, food and k-lifestyle. On the other hand I’m trying to improve my writing skills, so this will be my daily exercise to master creative writing.

Day 1

Trip to Seoul was amazing. It’s my first time flying with Qatar Airways, and let me tell you — service is excellent! Something that I’ve learned on another trip with another Asian airline — you have to learn how to “ask” to recieve. I just switched to an exit row seat as the guy in front of me was tall and reclined his sit the moment he got on board. The thing is — just move and claim another one, if you ask them they will not let you. I’ve learned that the hard way. Did I mention food at Qatar Airways is way better than what I’m used to! Service as well. Compered to my previous trip with China Eastern (no entertainment, no smiles, no phones while in the air) and Aeroflot, this one felt like I’m flying business class.

Doha airport is also really nice and fast if you are doing transfer (almost no security check when doing transfer). I didn’t have much time to explore but everything was smooth and nice. Was quite surprise to find out there are lots of Bulgarians flying to Seoul with the same flight. Having in mind how few visit Seoul, it felt like invasion! At Incheon Airport I had to help two Bulgarian ladies to find an old Bulgarian gent who they lost at Doha airport.

Being back to Seoul is great. At Doha airport I bumped at one of my university professors, Kamen Spasov, so we later that night we met and had Korean barbecue. Korean barbecue by itself is unique experience. The BBQ place we found in Myongdong offers unlimited meat (all can eat concept will not work in Bulgaria). They bring on the table coal gril and you have to gril your own meat. Korean food deserves dedicated post, so I will write more about that in the future.

Finding a good place in Seoul is not easy — it’s very expensive and challenging to find really good place if you are not physically present in Seoul. I had to stay in a small apartment close to Seoul Station, that’s the central train station of the city and as you expect it’s not the best place to live. Tomorrow I will start the search for my long term accommodation in Seoul.

That’s all for now. I’m posting this updates with one week delay on a purpose.

Food is good on board of Qatar Airways
Doha Airport is clean, fast and user friendly
Doha Airport — upscale products on display
Incheon Airport, home for Korean Air and Asiana, the best airport I’ve ever been
Incheon Airport — decoration with plants — all over the airports, extremely clean and nice all the time.
Plastic surgery ads everywhere, doing it here in Korea is like visiting dentist, not a big deal.
