Isaac, I agree with you of course but what you say is heretical to society. There are millions of people who have succeeded despite school and higher education. The fact is that the way and what we are taught is largely irrelevant to our needs today. We are taught to retain knowledge but that is available on our smart phones. We are not taught skills and understanding which is what we need to be able to ‘do things’. What we learn after we leave education is the application of knowledge which is what we should have been taught in schools.
The testing is ridiculous as it also does not test understanding or skills, most of the time. So, all the informal learning which we do is not recorded which is what is most valuable!
