Thank you, Dave. I appreciate the kind words and the extra food for thought. No one — the board included — is served by the way they operate in isolation. One of our readers commented on Facebook that the way the trustees are chosen needs to be overhauls (UA isn’t alone in its troubles with oversight), that there should be standards for the make-up of the board. Maybe the state should explore whether to adopt a process like Pennsylvania where trustees are elected, which came in handy when the Penn State scandal hit. Not that I’d want to add another layer of elected officials in the world, but there is at least some measure of accountability with that.
