Overnight get-away for two at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, CT

Sometimes you just need to get away for a couple days, and the Interlaken Inn located in scenic Lakeville, Connecticut has the perfect mid-week package for couples.

The instant Romance Package features an over-night stay plus several bonuses, such as in-room champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on check-in.

When you’re looking for a quick get-away, there’s no shortage of options in New England in the Fall. From B&B’s to campgrounds and large resorts, you have your pick of places to stay and things to do. But you might wonder, where’s an ideal place to go when you want something for the adults with comfortable lodging, excellent food and an abundance of outdoor points of interest?

The Interlaken Inn is positioned in the northwest corner of Connecticut, just east of the NY / CT state line. With four separate main buildings and two cottages, the Interlaken Inn has a small resort feeling. The rooms in the main building are nicely appointed and offer the perfect backdrop for the Instant Romance package.

The Instant Romance Package includes a three course dinner for two at the attached Morgan’s Restaurant, a leader in the area for farm-to-table restaurants and a supporter of local, sustainable farming. The dining room was intimate with a large fire place and also featured live jazz piano on the Thursday night we were there.

The included three course dinner offered full choice from their regular menu, and we opted for the Lobster fritters and Ceaser Salad for our appetizers. The wine and beer menu was extensive, offering a variety of wines by the glass or bottle, as well as a good selection of craft brews, both in-bottle and on draft. For entrees, we opted for the slow cooked short ribs and their homemade chicken pot pie. Everything about the culinary experience at Morgan’s is top-notch, with fine attention to detail both in taste and presentation. Our server was excellent, and we finished our three courses with chocolate ganache and strawberry parfait for dessert. We had our dessert plates wrapped and brought them back to our room, which is highly recommended!

Along with the resort property on the southern side of Interlaken Road, the opposite side of the road offers a large park like setting, complete with access to Wononskopomuc Lake, which includes complimentary canoes and kayaks. Make sure to get up early on the second day, and walk over to The Lake to see a stunning fall sunrise with distant shores that are lit up shades of purple and orange as the sun rises higher in the sky.

The Lake also offers excellent star-gazing at night and early morning.

Once you finish taking in the sun-rise at Wononskopomuc Lake, head back to the Interlank Inn main building for a complimentary continental breakfast. Food options were good, with a mix of standard continental fare, as well as freshly made pancakes and an omelette station.

After breakfast, make sure to stop by the front lobby and select the items that you want for your included lunch picnic. They offered a variety of sandwiches, including a vegetarian option. The lunch is packed into a fern hamper that’s yours to keep. We opted to save our picnic lunch for checkout, and then headed west to explore Millerton, NY for the day.

Once we were packed up and ready to hit the road, we first went to the
Harney & Sons Tea Shop & Tasting Room located at 13 Main St in Millerton, NY. This store and tea bar has some of the best tea blends produced, and it’s a treat to have so many flavors of tea right at your fingertips.

Once you’re loaded up with freshly brewed tea, head north on Rudd Point Road towards Rudd Pond and the Taconic State Park. This state protected wildlife area offers good hiking trails, with moderate elevation changes and views of two ponds. We stopped and enjoyed our picnic lunch at the wooden tables located just before the nature trails and campground.

We followed the White Trail for about 3 miles as it winded over and around the rear of Rudd Point. Be prepared to climb through certain sections, and be sure to wear good hiking footwear!

Be prepared for moderate elevation changes and portions that require climbing.

Once you finish up hiking at Rudd Pond, head back into Millerton for dinner, or continue on your way back home. The are offers many options for casual or fine dining. Northwestern CT and eastern NY offer a relaxing and peaceful way to get away from the daily grind and is perfect for couples.
