Why Your Mental Health Sucks

There Are Things You Can Do

There’s incessant talk about an ongoing mental health crisis.

While there’s no one size fits all answer, there are a few small steps that can be taken, to put your mental health in a much better place. These micro-disciplines are what add up to be considered “life-style” choices, and they’re what impact your mental health in a major way.

The day to day adds up.

It’s a combination of your habits.

This includes the type of food you’re eating. If you’re consuming candy, soda, chips or fast food more than once per week, then you should stop. Take inventory of your dietary habits, and make a switch to fruit, veggies and hard protein. Eating poorly is a huge contributor to both how you feel and your mental state. On top of it, don’t lie to yourself that you only eat those things “sometimes”. It’s more than you’re admitting, because we all see the McDonalds line alongside the missing peanut butter cups from the carton at a check out counter.

Your eating habits are huge.

Nutrition isn’t the only thing though.

Go to the gym at least four times per week. You have time, we all know you do. If you’ve got moments to spare on TikTok or Instagram, then you have time to lift weights and get on a treadmill. The routine of exercise will change your life in more ways than you can comprehend. If there’s anything that will alter your mental attitude, it’s this.

Go workout.

There is no alternative to exercise. Do the work.

Last, get off your phone. I know it’s taboo to say this, but throw the fucking thing in a closet for a few hours and go do something else. Live your life without out it for a while. I know you think you need it, but you don’t. If you get lost, ask for directions. If you have an emergency where you need a phone to use, ask someone around you; there are phones everywhere.

Your phone is affecting you, and we all know it.

Get some separation between you and tech.

This list isn’t exhaustive, but I guarantee, that if you start here you’ll notice a difference. You’re either going up or going down, and these negative habits are pulling you down. They may not “cure” your mental health, but if you worked these elements into your routine, you’re sure to be taking steps in a better direction. You will feel better.

Your mental health sucks because you’re not doing these easy things.
