The genius of it is that Luhrmann gets Shakespeare to work on film by making a story by the greatest wordsmith in history into a highly visual, aural experience. Name one other Shakespeare movie that is good. It can’t be done. Therein lies the success of the movie. By the way I can’t stand any of Baz Luhrmann’s other movies (but haven’t seen Gatsby) apart from Srictly Ballroom which is a similarly visual, melodramatic, epic work of genius.
