INTENTION AND VALUES
Many people today have their own goals, dreams, and aspirations. Everyone should want to strive for something greater in my personal opinion. But what’s the difference between someone achieving these goals or dreams in the manner they visualize them, versus someone you always seems to come up slightly short? As I personally continue to grow and expand my own business, I no longer take the path of “intentionally trying to grow business.”
The goal in growing any business should first come from the foundational level and understanding of how to grow your connections. Is your intention to grow your business? Or, is your intention to grow your network and your connections, thus leading to further business growth? Is your intention purely self-based to benefit you and your business, or is it based on the pure premise of building rapport with new connections and intentionally wanting to help them build as well?
Intention and value are two extremely powerful tools that we all have access too. However, one without the other will leave you at only 50%. That’s still a pitiful grade when it comes to school. You’re still failing class. So, O encourage you to take a moment and reflect on your inner intentions and your values.
The picture shows me presenting to a group of trainers, on my own time, for no payment, or business gain. My intention was simply to be grateful for being given the opportunity and privelage to share my knowledge Nd journey and to help fellow comrades in this training industry. My intention wasn’t money driven, but rather happy to share and expose. My intent was to offer advice that would help to better each of their own business, but more importantly to help their clients with more knowledge. Thats a pure intention and my values are in line.
Let’s start off with these few simple questions, and remember that you are only answering to you. So don’t bullshit yourself if you’re used to bullshitting everyone else around you. It takes a lot to acknowledge our own faults. Here we go…
- Are you connecting and networking with other people solely for the purpose of “you” gaining more business? (Take a moment and dig.)
- Who was the last person that you actually helped without any expectation in terms of payment, a returned favor, or a benefit yourself? (Be honest with yourself.)
- Are you doing everything someone else is doing but you don’t seem to see the same results? Why do you think this isn’t working?
- Are your intentions matching your values and beliefs? (Are you working with clients or customers that you absolutely can’t stand, but continue to take their money, bullshit them when you see them, and thow them under a bus when they’re gone? )
These questions are basic and straight forward. It shouldn’t be too diffixult2to answer them. Once you have, You should have gained some better insight into what you need to shift within yourself in order to secure the results without that you are looking for.
If you are truly open to helping someone else learn, grow or better themselves without anything other than the simple fact that you feel good helping someone then you should be in a pretty good place. For me, i can personally share with you reading this that starting my own business 5 years ago I was in the mindset of “O need to buokd and grow and make money.” It was a me mindset and my intentions wete solely focused around myself. That didn’t work to well and I struggled.
As I have evolved and grown to see things from a completely unselfish perspective I have made some amazing connections with other people, in which no business ever came from it, but the conversations we shared, the insight we passed on to one another, the ideas and the referrals I was able to make for them helped them launch to a new level. I set my intentions to simply help other people whenever and wherever I can. Of course we all look to grow business and make money, but if that’s the main intention, people will feel that.
Think about how you would feel if someone came to tou always asking you to help them out, versus someone coming to you and asking you, “Hey buddy, how can I help you grow your business?” The biggest thing you can do is bullshit yourself into believing that your values truly match your intentions or vice versa. Stop thinking about me me me, and start thinking about other’s and how you might be able to help them.
You may have some in depth inner work that you will need to do in order to shift your values and mindset, but own your bullshit. Don’t lie to yourself, because you will know that you are.
Namaste
