Day 2

This is day 2. My project for day 2 is to explore NY city and take a picture that represents the area.

The reason why I made this piece was to explore New York City. Because I only have a day to explore and I cannot go to every places, I decided to pick a specific place and wander around the area. In this case, Canal st and China town.

The potential competitions will be Instagram, Facebook and other social media websites that uploads a lot of photos from different locations.

PROCESS

First, I wanted to have a picture that has amazing view of New York City. I realized I cannot take the picture(due to limited access to equipments and places like rooftop)so I narrowed the subject down to take a picture in the location. I picked China town because I never went there. Transportation that I used was subway and walking.

One of the challenging things that I had was the cold. In the morning, I felt ok but after taking videos and pictures in China town, it got worse. I had to sneeze every time I walked and I had a headache. Because of my state, I had to comeback to my house after exploring the area for 2 hours. Also, time and the access of a rooftop(I thought going to a rooftop can take an amazing picture)was limited.

I think the picture shows what ordinary China town is like. On the left, there is a Chinese woman dragging her dotted bag and going somewhere. She looks tired, she looks like she doesn’t care about her look. She has a sunglass and a cap on her. Having 2 items that covers her face indicates that she doesn’t want to get bothered. (just my opinion) She’s old and it is difficult to move when you are old but she keeps moving. I think this situation matches with Chinatown. Even though you are tired, you have to keep going.

Also, I think it creates a nice composition with three Asians. One on the left, right and the man who comes up the stairs.
