major studio, week5

so it’s week 5!

ok, so right now, I got the technical part which I press the button and the button moves the servo, the servo(hits the button that opens the valve) opens the solenoid valve for a liquor bottle, and stay for 3 sec and shuts itself. So, for the ultimate goal of making the random cocktail generator, I need to have 6 of that. I worked with 3 servos for this time because if I can get the 3 servos working, rest of the part is easy…I think.

I ordered more arduino wires, solenoid valves, hose bar(pic below) so I could link it and see if it works. The valves came, I was able to see and test them so that I know the valve is not a problem if there’s a problem occur.(saves time!) I think this testing period is very important because once you hook up everything and turns out that it is not working, it is very hard to track down what is wrong with what. This process works similar with coding, keep testing to see if it works.

I was not good at coding, so I asked one of my NYU friends to help me figuring out how I should write the code. (later I will post the code, too) certain amount of time passed, me and my friend figured out how to make 3 servos move for certain seconds and goes back to the original angle.

this is hose bar. This is a link between transparent hose and liquor spout. BUT.. it looked same so I picked up 6 of them(bought this in hardware store), two of 6 is bigger than the rest so it doesn’t fit ..☹ I have to change this.

all the valves didn’t have solder on the tip part so I had to individually solder them. Also, once I finished soldering, it didn’t fit to the bread board, so I had to cut them off and do it again.

size 0.3 fits into breadboard!

so this is a silicone that you can put them into aquarium.. it smells really horrible. Because the liquor spouts was leaking, I had to buy a silicone so it stops from leaking.

I don’t know why but there is like a huge gap between the small hole.

I really don’t understand why they put that little hole there and the gap between the hole and the big metal straw. It leaks!

I was expecting a white colored silicone so it tightly holds the leaking part and dries fast, but this one looked fragile. I don’t know, will see.

you can see, the part where I put the silicone. It was looked like a glue that doesn’t work at the first time.

I need to design the frame so I can put the bottle upside down and make it stable. Also I need to figure out the places where I can place the valve and arduino and all that.

very clean work space.

I tried 6 servos but the first three works, other 3 doesn’t work. When I press the left one, the arduino turns off. I have to figure that out this week.
