Dream Boston Beat Writer Team

In light of Greg Bedard’s Boston Sports Journal adding beat writer that were laid off or just plucking them from other sites, it got me thinking. What reporters would I want on my dream team. Here they are.

Jay King, Boston Celtics
Jay King is the best Celtics beat writer in the biz at this moment. Guys like Brian Robb, Gary Washburn, and Adam Himmelsbach can’t hold his jock. Jay puts in the work all hours of the day. Whether it’s his Raining J’s podcast with John Karalis of Reds Army or his spectacular segment Jaywalking where he fields questions over Facebook Live from eager fans looking for a way to connect with someone who knows his stuff. Jay doesn’t think he’s high and mighty like some people. He will interact with you, especially on Twitter. He also doesn’t try and make up sources he doesn’t have to try and keep up with the other beat guys. Guys on the beat also “confirmed” Chris Hayes’ tweet saying Hayward signed hours before it was actually announced officially. I’m not saying they were full of it but it’s a possibility to try and get clicks and stay ahead. Jay was just taking it all waiting like the rest of us and not getting ahead of himself. Not trying to report fake news. He gets us the facts and his great all around in all aspects of his media game. Get him on my team every day.

Jeff Howe, New England Patriots
First off, a guy who owns a coat this electric can play for my team any day of the week. I don’t care what he has done. If you own an electric coat and wear it that way you are my guy. Jeff Howe is that dude. He is an excellent reporter. His writing is off the charts and he is great on Comcast and the radio. His podcast is also really good. The Jeff Howe Show was great and the name was uber creative. Jeff is my favorite guy on the Patriots beat. He is great in twitter and with reporting. You can’t really compare anyone on the beat to the wizard that is Mike Reiss of ESPN. The guy knows the moves before anyone or is dropping cute hints. Give me Howe.

Jared Carrabis, Boston Red Sox
Carrabis is the best baseball guy in the city. Including every beat writer for the Sox, Carrabis is the best guy for Sox news. His write ups after games are second to none. He will toss some comedy in there while he gives you what happened and what he thinks. He does a better job with the Sox by being at home than being in the locker room. I would take him anywhere over any guy in the Sox clubhouse post game trying to get a good quote. Jared also has a podcast Section 10 Podcast where he gives his spin on things all Sox in an audio format. Also his twitter game is great. He will go fanboy one second and fact man the next. He is the best. I’d take him as a beat writer from his house if you would even call that a beat writer still. He’s who I would want

Mystery Man, Boston Bruins
Couldn’t name a guy on the Bruins beat if I tried. Sorry folks.
