Brexit — Non Voters View
I am hungover and I certainly am no saint but here are my two cents as a non voter.
64 million alarms go off every day in the UK as people rise to earn money, get educated or praise their faith in something beyond the human senses. As hell sounds it bells we moan in exasperation and begin our routine. Routines are different for everyone; but most of us check in on either social media or the news before heading for our grind. Like the world rotating on its axis flying round it’s orbital path we do this day in, day out. We follow friends, thought leaders and companies we have affinity to, they post content regularly that occasionally touches base with us enough for us to ‘react’ with the complex interaction of a like or winky face. This is fine; blessed to live in the age of tailored information not just at our fingertips but served on a plate.
I appreciate you’ve taken the time to read this so I’ll make it march. Political affray, economic collapse, travel restrictions and other potential negatives of leaving the EU do not scare me. I’m like water. However, what does keep me up at night is the motivation behind the degree of passion gushing out from every citizen who has an opinion.
I get it. What does this actually mean for the future generation, why should travel within our continetal brothers be laborious and what right does the 51.9% have to shut off the EU flow of funding into our communities. All valid concerns I’ve heard, plus many, many more for being upset.
It’s not the national divide that has struck me but the colossal display of emotion, care and fortitude in fighting for what they believe in. I can’t recall an event in the last year that wasn’t terror, war, or Big Brother orientated that everyone spoke up on. There’s fire in the hearts of our people, fierce relentlessnes for not accepting an injustice. Weather the mechanics of article 50 are instated or there’s a second vote for a more representative population, either way there will be huge action taken and the fuel was ignited by the thoughts and feelings of everyone who voted.
I find the mass response inspiring. If we could tap into what makes people react in this way, other than marketers making lots of money, imagine what else we could affect, solve, rebuild with the same abundant passion for intolerance. Does it really have to be on our doorstep or feel like it effects us personally for us to notice?
It is in our blood and culture to stand up for what is right by not stopping until we see change or in the face of adversity. This is part of our British, European and Western identity and the driving force behind our sociological and technological advancement. Please do not miscontrue my view for scorning anyone who has spoken up. Quite the opposite, you are simply witnessing my inner monologue freight training down an imaginary highway of possibility. We all say that global poverty, warming, 3rd world crisis is unacceptable but only a small amount of our society actually takes any action. I’m guilty of this too, we’re all busy people and don’t have the time to play superman but we do recognise that the world has serious issues that are not being properly addressed. Why the fuck is that?
I apologise if any of my information is ill informed or inaccurate, Like I said, I don’t vote on political matters (I may write about this too)either way I know I will have to adjust and so will those who come after me. I simply find the mass response inspiring and wonder what else we could affect, solve, rebuild if 64 million people got behind something as equally or more important in the same way as the last three or four days.
I should probably open my curtains now..
